Question about Microwave Ovens

Open Question

I have a Panasonic NN A873 Microwave/Oven/Grill which has been working perfectly until yesterday. It has been built-in to my new kitchen using the correct kit from Panasonic, the day it was built in it worked as before but yesterday when I wanted to use it I couldn't get it to work. The clock was working but each time I entered a programme it started but after a couple of minutes it stopped and I got a message saying to refer to the instruction manual. I did that but there is nothing in there to help me. During the afternoon I heard beeping coming from either the microwave or the oven but I couldn't see which one was making the noise. I would be grateful for any help/advice you can give me.

SOURCE: Microwave re-started

The Start pad on the keypad may be starting to short. If so, a new keypad (membrane switch) would fix it.

If you might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's at

SOURCE: microwave not working but oven and grill do

Test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

My panasonic NN-8500 microwave/convection oven the microwave part is working fine but,the convection grill defrost is not

Possibly the defrost heater element has failed. You will need to strip the cabinet off and use a multimeter to test the element. May also be the overtemp safety thermostat may have failed.

On microwave mode the oven makes light buzzing noise and does not heat food. Convection oven and grill functions work perfectly. michaelchrys@yahoo.com

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts (including a fuse and the diodes), then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Panasonic Microwave NN-A770S getting hot on right side externally

If you described this to Panasonic very carefully, and they said it's normal, then I would say keep using it until such time that you get other symptoms. The inverter has some parts mounted on a large chunk of aluminum called a heat sink. It draws the heat out of the parts and the heat radiates and/or convects away. This keeps the circuit parts from overheating. As long as you have good air flow through the vents, it sounds okay.
