Thumping noise I just got a reconditioned Roma and it is making this thumping noise all the time when steaming the milk. Is that normal? If I turn the know a tiny bit right the sound stops but so does the steam after a while. Thanks Ulla

Just got my machine and it makes the thumping sound the entire time I am steaming. Is this normal and expected?

Just bought a Breville Cafe Roma Model ESP8XL (improved milk frothing). I've only used it to make two cups of espresso so far but I am wondering why it makes a loud thumping sound when I am frothing the milk. Also, a fair amount of water (3-4 TBSP) comes out of the wand before the steam starts. What's wrong?

I was told by Breville people that thumping noise is normal. The water from the steam wand is just the condensation from the previous use, annoying but normal.

It's normal, it uses a pump.  When the thumping sounds stops you have a problem.

Too much water coming out of steam wand

I worked at StarBucks, what we did was put water into a contaner and steam the water, a lot of the time why the steamer doesn'..t work as well is because it is clogged. Another way to do it is to just run your steamer, also go to a coffee store and buy expresso machine cleaner. It could just need a good cleaning.

Extremely loud squealing noise during steaming milk

This could be blocked. The best way to clear this is to switch off the machine and see if you can dismantle the frother arm. Sometimes the arm will come off by unscrewing. If it does, wash it in hot water and washing liquid. If it doesn't come off try putting the frother wand into a mug of cold water and allow it just to steam the water.
Frother wands don't just steam liquids - they **** up liquid which can block the vents and the actual steam hole which this machines' problem sounds like it does have.

No milk,or steam coming from cappucinno nozzle

If you pull the cappacino component off. The black plastic thing at the end of the metal tube (where the cappacino component's attached to) can be unscrewed by rotating it with your hand. You can clean it with a brush and a thick needle to clean the hole the make sure that it's not blocked. After that just screw it back on and reattach the cappacino component.

Coffee tastes burnt/No steam for froth

I don't know about the burning business but I had the same problem with the steam wand. the first thing I did to solve this problem was to take small object like a needle or safety pen and insert it into the base of the steam wand. (I have feeling that most problems related to the steaming wand are due to deposits clogging the wand itself.) After I cleared out as best I could I used vinegar and water to help remove any calcium deposits. Sure enough, after inserting the needle into the wand steam began to flow again.

Makes espresso, coffee, water, but will not steam

The pump has gone bad - through use. This is a common problem, and has to do with the "seals" that are in the pump. Since the pump generates high pressure and heat, over time, the seals will fail, and will be unable to generate enough pressure and heat to create steam. The only remedy is to have the pump replaced through the Breville Out of Warranty repair centers.

The Steam Mechanism Won't Operate

hi there,

I too am having a similar problem with my breville espresso machine. Whereby i used to be able to froth the milk with no problems but these past couple of days, the steam button light is illuminated, when i turn the knob to steam the milk, the steam button's light goes off and the hot water gets illumintaed and all i get is hot water. It also does not make that thumping noise it usually does just before the steaming begins. Please help!

I have tried clenaing it, letting the hot water run for a few minutes (not just seconds) but still the issue isn't resolved. I am thinking about taking it back to the manufacturer as it is still under warranty. Only prob is they are on the other side of the state :o(

Many thanks,
Alison
