Belt on a riccar

It depends on the model, most models require simply removing the bottom plate and replacing the belt in place of the old belt.

I need to replace the belt. Have the belt and the vacuum bottom off. What do I attach the belt too?

This unit has 2 belts. The V-belt on the brush usually doesn't cause problems. The larger flat belt requires regular replacement ( belt # 38528-035 ). The belt is first placed around the motor shaft toward the rear of the machine, and then around the large pulley. You must have strong fingers to stretch the belt over the drive pulley. Start the belt at the top of the pulley, and try to "roll " it around the pulley a little at a time, holding the belt firmly around the pulley as you go.

Belt replacement

Your model requires (2) different belts. Here is a link to the belts you need and to the manual:

Belt broke how do i fix it

To my knowledge model F7220900 SteamVac doesn't require a belt. Are you sure that is your model? If you have a different Hoover model you can get a replacement belt here:

The small belt that makes the beater bars spin broke. It is only two years old; repair shops tell me this involves replacing two belts because of some kind of clutch to the tune of $150! Is this possible...

A very easy replacement. The belts cost about £3 each. Yes, there are two belts and even if the clutch needed replacement, this is about £20 for clutch and both belts - this is a UK site, but I am sure you will find similar prices in the US/Canada. So, total price about $30 USD. What a rip-off - $150! It is very straight forward and just requires turning the turnbuckles that hold the bottom plate that covers the brush bar - then lift out the brush bar and you will then be able to pull out the old belt - hooking the new belt on the clutch mechanism is a bit tricky and requires a bit of dexterity and patience. Once re-assembled, make sure the brush bar rotates the correct way - it should brush to the back of the machine, i.e. when looking at it side on with the front of the machine pointing to the right, the brush bar should rotate clockwise. If not, turn unhook the belt from the clutch mechanism and hook it on the other way. Fiddly, but not difficult. I've done a few now and it takes about 15 mins.

Flat belt on Hoover Windtunnel requires to be replaced regularly

No it is not normal. The brush roll may be bad causing extra stress on the belt. The other option is the belt is installed incorrectly. I believe this model has a brush on/off option and the belt must be correctly installed around both the motor shaft and the shaft for that brush on/off switch.

Hoover upright model u5095-930 belt change

I couldn't find your specific model but this may be similiar to another that you have to position the new belt around the agitator (beater bar) on the bottom of the vacuum, replace the cover, and then turn the vac over and remove the TOP cover to lift the new belt up and place it on the motor shaft/pulley. The new belt may require some effort to pull it over the pulley.

Hope this helps.

Brushes don't spin

Most likely requires a belt replacement. On certain models it can be the belt tensioner assembly, however. Check your belt first. Feel free to ask me specifically about your machine, since the model type may affect what's wrong with your vacuum.

Belt replacement

You are correct there are 2 belts.
They can be tricky to replace most shops will state they cant be replaced & you require new clutch.
So try this site for manuals on how to remove clutch unit & replace both belts they are very good with lots of high quality pics.

Does not pick up dirt anymore

There are two belts on this machine. The first is a flat rubber belt that is designed to slip or break if the roller is jammed. This bet requires replacement at least once a year. It is vitally important to get the proper belt, as there is no other that will fit and function. The second is a v-belt and the early model belts were too thin and would sit down in the pulley too far and the tension required to drive the roller would be less than sufficient. When the handle is in the upright position, the roller stops. When the handle is lowered, there is an idler arm and pulley that sits down on the v-belt and tightens it enough to rotate the roller. In some cases, the tire on the pulley will come off and will not put enough force on the belt to tighten it.
There is also an adjustment on the hood of the machine to turn the roller off for bare floor cleaning. This adjustment should only be made with the handle in the upright position.
The belt(s) can look just fine and still be worn out. Replacing the belts is always the first solution and the least expensive.
