I would try some headphones in the outport port on the pc to check that your sound is working , if it is then the speakers are faulty, if it doesnt output sound through the headphones then your prolem lies with the sound card on the pc or the drivers need installing

I can't find where my microphone goes

Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? How old is it? Which make/model of computer do you have?

For an older desktop, the microphone input will be on the back of the computer. There are usually three 3.5 mm jacks for audio connections. The pink connector is for the microphone. The black connector is for Line In and the green is line out (speakers). Often they are towards the far side of the motherboard connections from any PS2 (keyboard and mouse) ports. Otherwise, they will line up with one of the card slots.

Newer desktop computers often have additional audio ports for surround sound. However, the pink jack for the microphone is standard. If the computer has front audio ports, you may find that the same color labels the jacks. Otherwise look closely at the icons next to the ports. These will be in addition to the back audio ports.

Laptops can have the audio ports on the front, back or side depending on the model. There will be a small icon with a stand microphone indicated for the microphone port.

If you have one of the newer USB microphones, plug it into an available USB port.

If the computer has no working audio ports, either get a USB microphone or add a sound card.

I hope this helps. If you add a comment with your computer's brand and model number, I'll try to provide the exact audio port details. (There are some computer motherboards that do not have on-board audio and you will need a sound card.)

Cindy Wells
(on Windows computers, you may have to change the default audio input. Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices. (for Windows 7) For other versions of Windows, you may find slightly different titles in the Control Panel.)

Acer x1300, front sound jack is not working, back one works fine, all the usb ports work fine on the front, its only the audio port... any idea's?

try swapping the speakers around if the problem still persists either the speaker is faulty or
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
orbe sure to wear an anti static earth strap before touching anything inside your computer
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit and your sound card dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems
hope this helps

How to i connect my bose companion 2speakers to my computer and get sound

hi, first Identify what computer you have. Is It A Mac or PC?

If it is PC
-------------
There should be 2 small 3.5mm coloured sockets on the back, front (or both ) of the main box (tower/desktop unit). You should find that they are coloured Green and Red. Green is for sound output (Headphones/speakers or hifi) and the Red is for sound input or Recording. Used for things like microphones. Some will accept line sources such as mixers and Ipods pr cassette players, but please check your sound manager, mixer settings in your opperating system to make your you have an adjustable input setting for Mic and Line input attenuation as not all do and you may end up with a distorted mess. You may also find there is a small diagram of headphones or a microphone to indicate sound "in" and "out" ports.

If you have a mac
-------------------------

Appart fom me being envious :-) there are two sockets. On laptop types, on the side or on the tower types on the front, back or both. They have a diagram of a microphone and headphones. Hadphones is for audio output to headphones, speakers, hifi, dj mixer. The Microphone is a sound input. Please read above for microphone port usage. Hopefully this answers your question. Please also bear in mind that if you have no sound once plugged in, you may need to adjust the audio properties in the system in the system and/or program you may be using

My speakers work but there is no sound coming out of my computer

Try rolling back your sound drivers (control panel, system, hardware, device manager, sound and audio devices, right click your sound hardware, properties, drivers), if this fixes the issue go to microsoft update, run the 'custom' scan...it should show you an update to your sound card/hardware, click the little "+" sign beside the update and click the little "Do not show this update again" checkbox. This will prevent automatic updates from "fixing" your drivers. Occasionally Microsoft sends out updates that are incompatible with a particular machines' setup.
Hope it helps.

The front 3mm port is disconnected and I don't know where to hook it back up. I can't tell from the manual.

The front 3mm ports are for mic input / headphones output. The pin connectors are as follows. You need to use the JAudio header, which are in the lower-right corner of the motherboard closest to the front of the case when it's installed.

This header has 14 pins, and allows user to connect the front audio out put cable with the PC front panel. It will disable the output on back panel audio connectors.
Within this header, pin 1 is in the lower left corner, and pin 14 is in the upper right corner, like this:

2 ... ... ... 14
1 ... .. ... 13

The pinouts are:

1 Mic in/center
2 Ground
3 Mic power/Bass
4 Audio power
5 Right line out/Speaker out Right
6 Right line out/Speaker out Right
7 Reserved
8 Key
9 Left line out/Speaker out Left
10 Left line out/Speaker out Left
11 Right line in/Rear speaker Right
12 Right line in/Rear speaker Right
13 Left line in/Rear speaker Left
14 Left line in/Rear speaker Left

both ports are integrated audio, both feed off the motherboard, the front ones come off a combo header with hd power lights,
on the back you should have 4 speaker out (surround sound), line in, mic in, 4usb2, 1firewire, 1ethernet, 1parallel, 1vga, 1rgb, 1ps2 keyboard, 1ps2 mouse
fffaab4.jpg try a different speaker out,
you may be attached to one of the fillin ports for speakers that go behind you in surround sound
pink is mic
light blue is line in
light green is headphone/plain stereo
yellow is subwoofer
dark grey is wide
light grey is rear

Speakers won't work

Hi, you may want to try plugging the input line of the Dell speaker to the other jacks. Normally green is for speaker, pink - microphone and blue is for line-in and all are normally at the back of the computer. Sometimes, the back are deactivated if there are jacks in the front., so you may to try plugging it in the front if they are present. Assuming the speakers light/power up, if you want to check if they are working is by touching with your finder the input plug which should produce a humming sound. Also worth to check the drivers of your sound card. Hope this works for you. Regards.

I only hear sound out of two speakers........

Have you set the computer up for 4.1 speakers in the audio software? Go to start control panel and click on sound's speech and audio device's, then click on sound's and audio device's. A window should pop up with a load of menus at the top, click on the one that says volume. Where it says speaker settings click on the advanced button. Click on the menus until the picture lookslike your system you have.
