I fitted a new belt. Green light is on so brush is spinning. As I lower the head the brush slows to a stop as it contacts carpet.

There are much quality differences in belts but the foot pedal with arrow is made to set the hightbecarefully because of easy broken pedals . but if the brush is setting on the deepest stand then its not rotating anymore and the brush stands still. its very easy how you can disassemble the brush and can place them in 3 differend levels in height ? on the grey bearing holders outside of the brush there are 3 different indications l and ll and lll the best is to set so that the carpet if its a thin one the brush must setting just lower then the suction mouth so that the brush are more coming out so deeper come out of this suction mouth so that the suction mouth has made a little more distance from the carpet because when the brush rotate to deep insite the suction mouth .1 the tension of the belt on the brush is lower and .2 the suction mouth sucks vaccuum on the carpet and the brush doesnt rotate because of the force of suction power, play around with the different heights you find the right level.

My Kirby is blowing out not sucking in how do I change this?

Either there is a blower option on the vacuum cleaner that needs to be set back to where it belongs, or somebody changed the brushes on the motor and got the brush or field wire connections reversed (one or the other, but not both).

My oreck vacuum cleaner belt does not stay on. After puting it on, and it seems like it will stay, it comes right off after a minute of vaccuuming

Some of those belts require a twist to provide the correct motion on the brush and stay on.
To determine the existing motion, install the belt and carefully stand the Vacuum on the handle and observe the rotation of the brush while running. The brush rotation direction should be into it's self so when it's on the floor it acts like it's trying to pull the vacuum forward.
If the brush is throwing dust forward and feels like it's pushing away its incorrectly mounted. Look at the operator manual and it should have a section on belt installation.
Best wishes,
TF

The rotating brush is not moving.

is the dyson brush belt-driven like most other vaccuums? broken brush belts usually cause that. they are easily replaced at most dept stoes or vac stores.

Smells like the motor is burning. observing sparks. It the motor cooked and is it just time for a replacement?

If you're observing sparks, then yes, just get a new one. With the low prices of good vaccuums its not worth starting a fire with your vaccuum. If it just smells like the motor is burning, check the belt and make sure its rotating freely and if you have an attachment, make sure the brush on the vaccuum is not being stopped while using the attachment. However, if you are seeing sparks,,,, definately time to junk it

Something was stuck in my brush and I had to take it off. How do I get it back on properly?

First look at your brush's ends- one side is round and the other is a bit rectangular also note where the band is supposed to lay on the brush . Before placing the brush back on take note of which way the brush is facing to match the groves inside the vaccuum shell and line up with the belt . Next the belt on the Dyson is extremely tight so you will need a screwdriver. Using the screwdriver- raise and stretch the belt so that you can slip the correct side of the brush into the belt. Once the belt is on the brush rotate and pull the brush to the left until the belt is resting comfortably on its designated spot. At this point you should then be able to line up the ends of your brush into the grooves of the shell and here a click. You are finished and should be good to go!
