What OS do u use ?! if Vista than the comp is not going to be extremely fast in exploatation do to the 512MB of memory. But it should fly on XP ... not to mention linux OS's ... !

if u're using microsoft OS's than check u;re computer for viruses, and also do a hard disk defragmentation ! And also try to keep some free space on the partition that has the windows installed on ... And ofecourse have all u;re drivers installed !!! The latest ones !!!

..if nothing works ... give more details ...

Slow boot HP Pavilion zv6131us

Eric,

There are a lot of factors that can be a cause to slow boot up times. Sometimes it is a lengthy process to figure out what or why the boot time takes so long.

In Windows XP the first step that I would perform is to click on Start>Run and then type: "msconfig" and click OK. (Don't put in the " marks.)

Once you are in the System Configuration Tool, click the Startup tab. Disable all of the items in that list. Then click the Services tab. Check the Box for "Hide all Microsoft Services" and then disable all.

After clicking "OK" you will be prompted to reboot the computer. Do so. Time the boot/startup time. If it has significantly improved, then half of the troubleshooting is done. Next, you will need to go back into MSCONFIG and go to the services tab and enable a few of the services. Then apply and reboot. Make sure to write down which services you've re-enabled and make sure to time your bootup.

Through the process of elimination, you should be able to find out which service is slowing the system down. If you have rechecked all of the services and the system is still booting with an acceptable speed, then begin checking the startup items. Do the same process of checking just a few items at a time, writing down which ones you are checking. After rechecking just a few, apply and reboot, timing the boot up time.

Through this process you should be able to find the services or startup items that are slowing your computer down. Once the offending services or startup items are identified, you will need to make a decision of whether to leave that item out of the startup process or possibly reinstall that program.

If you find the offending item, and are unable to identify it by name, you can always go to Google and type that item's name into the Google search and it may give you an indication for what that startup item is, or what it is part of.

Sometimes, if you have a virus or malware, you may find the items listed in startup. If you do find a suspicious item, then you will need to make sure to run a full malware scan to remove any of those items that are unwanted.

Hope this has helped steer in the right direction to find out why your computer is running so slowly!

My computer has 224mb ram it is abit slow was asking if i add 512mb will it be more fast and can 224mb work with 512mb

Hi,
As much I want to provide the best answer to your question, you did not indicate what exact 224mb memory you have. But don't worry I'll answer your concern with the details that you provided. Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer date storage. There are two types of RAM those are SRAM and DRAM. To answer your question if your 224MB will work with a 512MB. My answer it will as long as you both RAMs are the same in speed and in type. Before, purchasing a 512MB you need to check what is the speed of your 224MB and as well as the maximum RAM does the motherboard or your laptop is capable of.
I hope I answered your question.
Thanks a lot!!

Booting takes more time or sometime system hangs while booting. While opening new applications, Error crops up!

You may have to re-nstall windows xp, but that's the last thing that you would want to do because it requires formatting your hard disk. Ummm it could be a virus, but i think that you should by some more ram. Ram is the memory in your computer that keeps everything on the screen. You can get ram at ebay or craigslist. If you are able to, go to start, control panel, performance and maintenance, then in the left hand side there is a tab the says "See Also", in that box there is a windows program called system restore, open it. Make sure that you let the computer take its time. Don't force it to handle many processes at once because that can lead to crashing. Now back to system restore. Make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlyer time is selected, then click next. Try to choose a date that you think was before the computer became sluggush. Once you've chosen click next. Follow the instructions on the screen, click next and you should be promted to restart, so restart. Once it restarts it should restore while booting up. And it should work again.
