What OS do u use ?! if Vista than the comp is not going to be extremely fast in exploatation do to the 512MB of memory. But it should fly on XP ... not to mention linux OS's ... !

if u're using microsoft OS's than check u;re computer for viruses, and also do a hard disk defragmentation ! And also try to keep some free space on the partition that has the windows installed on ... And ofecourse have all u;re drivers installed !!! The latest ones !!!

..if nothing works ... give more details ...

Upgraded ram 1gb wont boot hp 510 mobo 30C4

If you added another 512Mb RAM to increase the RAM to 1Gb then the new 512Mb memory stick could be incompatible with the original 512Mb or it could be faulty.
Use RAM that is same make and speed as the original RAM.
Remove both RAM and just insert the new 512Mb into your laptop and see if the laptop boots up, if not then the RAM could be faulty.

Slow boot HP Pavilion zv6131us

Eric,

There are a lot of factors that can be a cause to slow boot up times. Sometimes it is a lengthy process to figure out what or why the boot time takes so long.

In Windows XP the first step that I would perform is to click on Start>Run and then type: "msconfig" and click OK. (Don't put in the " marks.)

Once you are in the System Configuration Tool, click the Startup tab. Disable all of the items in that list. Then click the Services tab. Check the Box for "Hide all Microsoft Services" and then disable all.

After clicking "OK" you will be prompted to reboot the computer. Do so. Time the boot/startup time. If it has significantly improved, then half of the troubleshooting is done. Next, you will need to go back into MSCONFIG and go to the services tab and enable a few of the services. Then apply and reboot. Make sure to write down which services you've re-enabled and make sure to time your bootup.

Through the process of elimination, you should be able to find out which service is slowing the system down. If you have rechecked all of the services and the system is still booting with an acceptable speed, then begin checking the startup items. Do the same process of checking just a few items at a time, writing down which ones you are checking. After rechecking just a few, apply and reboot, timing the boot up time.

Through this process you should be able to find the services or startup items that are slowing your computer down. Once the offending services or startup items are identified, you will need to make a decision of whether to leave that item out of the startup process or possibly reinstall that program.

If you find the offending item, and are unable to identify it by name, you can always go to Google and type that item's name into the Google search and it may give you an indication for what that startup item is, or what it is part of.

Sometimes, if you have a virus or malware, you may find the items listed in startup. If you do find a suspicious item, then you will need to make sure to run a full malware scan to remove any of those items that are unwanted.

Hope this has helped steer in the right direction to find out why your computer is running so slowly!

I upgraded to 512mb 144 pin in memeory slot

Take the RAM out. Will the computer boot?
Put the "old" RAM back in. Will the computer boot?

Some laptops are _very_ "picky" as to which 144-pin RAM is compatible.

Did you do your "homework" when buying the 512MB stick, to get compatible RAM?

New Acer Aspire one with one gig of ram seems slow. Will adding another 1 gig of memory make it faster? Will I be able to see the difference? Is this a difficult task to do?

Adding RAM, especially if your running Vista, will usually cure a lot of the problems related to speed. You shoul dbe able to see quite a difference in boot time and when loading programs in either XP or Vista.

Adding RAM is usually a very easy process. Certain care must be taken of course not to build up any static electricity of course. But after looking at the specs for the Acer Aspire, unless you are comfortable with taking laptops apart, I would take it to your local computer repair place and ask them to install it for you. THe slot is located underneath the motherboard and requires quit a bit of finesse to get to. Also, from the look sof it, you'll only be able to upgrade to 1.5 GB total of ram. So now it's a matter of considering if it's worth the trouble for an additional 512MB of ram. There will be a light improvement, but you'll have to wiegh that against the cost of the ram and installation.

While Playing the DVD

You probably need to clean out the pc. Get rid of programs that are not needed or used. Do a "Disk Cleanup", Defrag until it takes only about 1-2 min to complete. Get an Anti-spyware/malware as well as an Anti-spyware program and run it once a week. You might want to also invest in more RAM. 512mb these days isnt much.
