Question about Altec Lansing MX5021 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Hi My speakers are acting up. Sometimes sound comes out sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes only sound comes out of the sub but theres no sound coming from the speakers. So i hear only bass. When i try turning the power on/off, sound comes out but very quickly dissapears again. When it finally works, it will work for a day and will be gone again the next day. The speakers are connected to my laptop (mac). However, when i try plugging in my headphones to the headphone socket on the pod controller, there is sound which indicates it is working. But it doesnt come through the speakers without headphones. Do i need to get it repaired? What is damaged? Nssy

If you are having problems with your sound
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

No sound from the main cone mission m73

It sounds to me that there is something wrong with the crossover unit inside the speaker. These tend to use non-polar capacitors these sometimes fail, but it depends on how sophisticated the crossover is. It could use semi-conductors as well, which also fail.

Free Wiring Diagrams

HI. there are shorts present within the wiring harness. I would recommend replacing the entire wiring harness, if possible. I would also check the actual fuse to be sure that there is no corrosion or connectivity issues within that particular fuse box connection that pertains to the radio unit.

Hi, I have had my speakers for sometimes and one day it started to whistle to be exact, its coming from the subwoofer, very hight annoying sound. Any solution? Best regards Gabriel

sounds like a loose connection to one of the wires in the speaker. or interference. i would try unplugging the system for a few minutes and turn them back on. also shut the sub woofer see if that helps to. let me know.

I have a powered sub for my surround sound and every now and then its starts crackling and popping. i can make it stop by playing with the volume knob or even tapping it sometimes. my old sub did the same...

Does the crackling and popping sound comes only from the sub, or from the other speakers too? Try switching of to check. I think that it is problem on volume control potentiometer. In that case all the speakers must sound crackling and popping. If the problem is only in the sub you have to check its connections.

I have the klipsch sub-10 subwoofer, making noise after use

it sounds like the sub is rubbing in the voice coil.
put the speaker in upside down to what it was before.
sometimes that extra bit of downward pull is enough to offset the error.
There are speaker reconing experts out there but it is cheaper to replace the sub itself.
the sub can be replaced for sure.

5.1 Surround Sound Cutting Out

HI,
Yes you are right man, this problem occurs only with the cable problem, i can explain you, if there is a receiver problem means you won't get the sound its dam sure,
only if there is a cable problem you will get some noise or sound cut off with the speakers, so you please check the cables properly it will be alright.

My speakers only work one at a time...

Check you have plugged them into the correct socket on the back of the PC ..

Chances are you have 3 sockets - first = 'front' (or pair), middle = 'back' (for 4+ speaker sets) and last = 'center & sub-woofer' ..

Sounds like you have plugged into the 'center & sub-woofer' socket :-)

Boss BA-2900 car amp doesnt produce any sound

i have come across a similar problem before. if you are using the ceramic (glass, clear) fuses the solder in the end caps sometimes melts. you will not see the fuse blown, but the fuse may still be bad. try a new fuse to see if that works. also make sure no single stray strands of wire from a positive or negative wire are touching on the terminals on the amp. i hope this helps. ill keep thinking of other things in the meantime

5.1 surround problem

Hi Zamorano,

sounds like your problem could be either with the wiring of your speakers, or the receiver. How long have you had them?

check the wiring going from the sub woofer to the speakers- do you see any creases or damaged (frayed) looking wires?if you fiddle with the wiring where it connects to the speakers or sub when you play music, do you hear the speakers act up? if so, you may have the problem right there. I'd also try fiddling with it where it connects to your soundcard, moving it, and twisting it *gently* to see if you experience the same.

if you at any time hear the speakers acting up when doing this, then you have your problem right there. (from there, you should considering purchasing replacement cabling. if the affected cords are permanently attached to the units, I'd recommend calling in to Logitech, and seeing what they can do about replacing them).

otherwise, it is most likely a receiver problem, which you would also have to call Logitech for repairs/replacement.

Hope this helps!
