Question about Canon HG10 HD AVCHD HD Camcorder

Cannot read hard disk

My 1 month old HG10 now gives the error "cannot read hard disk" and hence I'm unable to record any videos or view previously recorded clips.

When I turn it on it
first says "READING THE HARD DISK" while trying to read hard disc and
then error message comes "CANNOT READ THE HARD DISK".
When I put it in record mode the top right corner "HDD" keeps scrolling

and then after some time an X appears and the error says "CANNOT READ
THE HARD DISK".
The still picture mode works and it can save to the mini SD card.
Nothing can be saved or read from the hard disk.
I first thought it was humidity related (as mentioned in the manual). So kept it in a dry area and
it still does not work. Hard disc initialization also does not work.
Request your help in solving this.

Mine is doing the same thing. Stopped working 30 minutes into my Disneyland vacation! Now, I tried to initialize the HD, but it didn't change anything. Mine is a nearly one year old, and used only a handful of times. never dropped, and taken pretty god care of. What can I do? I purchased it in late april 2008. HELP!

WELL, YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF CHOICES HERE. ONE, IF YOU CONSIDER THE HD ON THE CAMERA THE SAME AS A HD ON A COMPUTER, THEN A MESSAGE LIKE THIS WOULD MEAN THAT YOUR HD WAS CORRUPT AND HAD FAILED. I BELIEVE THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED WITH YOUR CAMERA. NOW SINCE IT IS 1 MTH OLD, IT IS STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY AND I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU CONTACT THE SELLER AND TELL THEM THE CAMERA HAS FAILED AND HAVE THEM REPLACE IT. OR, YOU CAN TRY TO FORMAT THE DRIVE AS YOU WOULD YOUR COMPUTER HD. BUT, WHY FIGHT IT WHEN IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A 1 MTH OLD CAMERA! YOU HAVE TO MUCH INVESTED IN THIS CAMERA TO HAVE THE DRIVE GO SOUTH ALREADY! YOUR CALL, BUT I'D GO WITH REPLACEMENT. I THINK YOU WILL BE MONEY AHEAD IN THE LONG RUN. IF YOU NEED ANY OTHER HELP REPLY TO ARCLIGHT1217

Hello, My Philips DVDR7300H has a recording error after burning to dvd - burns VERY Slowly, and then gets hung on 95% - then "Disk Error" and the disk is then unreadable. It reads other previously recorded...

This happens with a number of drives.
1. DVD Dye type - but as you have tried DVDs from a batch that works seems unlikely.
2. Some drives dont like +R or -R If using +R try -R etc. Also some drives have problems with RW's used previously
3. Drive head travel is faulty. Sometimes only recording a max of 4Gb or 90% on a disk works OK.
Good Luck

Im trying to view previously recorded videos on my camcorder but its asking me to reformat it

Yes, this happened to my miniDVD-R and -RW disks as well. No, don't reformat the disk !
I've been able to recover all (if not most) of the contents - video clips from those (bad/corrupted) miniDVD-RW ... and miniDVD-R disks ... (that I had recorded using the Samsung camcorder). I use the software tool - IsoBuster Pro . Inserted the mini-DVD into the DVD drive on my PC/laptop, and started the software . The process (to recover) may be very long .. i.e. it may take several to many hours for one miniDVD disk ... but it eventually enable me to retrieve the (lost) video clips.

Error C:13:02 - Can't recognize any disks

Try to use a cotton swap to 1st clean the recording lens or blow gently on it. Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc

Problem swapping hard drive

Smart errors are telling you the drive you are inserting will fail soon. It has recorded errors that indicate that drive is no longer usable. The drive still may work right now. But there is no telling when it will bite the dust. It could be 2 hours, it could be 2 months. I would trash the drive with smart errors.

Dvd is unable to read disk that i recoreded on the lg dvd recorder

It would be nothing to do with the TV.

DVD RW discs only last for so long if you have re-written to them many times they may be just worn out. Or is it with all RW discs?

Are you trying to watch them on the same player you recorded them on or is it a different DVD Player you are trying to watch them on?

Play Back

Some DVD players can't read -R & -RW disks. When you finalize make sure it is in Video mode not VR mode so the recorded disk will be able to work in most other DVD players. Also some DVD players only read recorded disks rated up to 1x, 4x, 8x, 16x, or a combination of these speeds.
