Question about JVC CH-X1500 12-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Hey guys, I've just installed a CD changer in my car - having some difficulties getting it to work. After some Googling I came across this forum so I figured I'd see if any of you guys know where I'm going wrong! I've a JVC head unit (JVC KD BT-22) I just bought a CD Changer cheaply off eBay (JVC CH-X550) This didn't come with a cable so I bought one off eBay. I've installed the head unit, run the cable through the car, fitted the CD changer in the boot but there doesn't seam to be any power - there's no lights on the unit and the button to eject the magazine doesn't work. I've looked at the settings on the head unit as I know sometimes you have to enable it for CD changer use. The only option i found was for Aux Input, which is set to CD changer. But when I scroll through the different inputs, the CD Changer isn't listed. Any ideas where I may be going wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Stu.

There should be a small connector on the changer itself for the power ground and remote wire for power to the changer unit. the cord coming from the unit to the changer doesn't supply this power and this is why it wont eject and also your head unit wont recognize it until it gets powered up and able to communicate with the head unit and then it will show up as a selectable source when switching between sources of music. check the back of the changer for a small connector containing 3 or 4 pins and you should have a connector with the corresponding wires coming from it to plug into this spot after connecting the wires properly. if you bought it on ebay it is possible you didn't get this piece which is critical when connecting this changer.

Thanks for the advise! Turns out the unit was okay and there wasn't anywhere for an earth cable to go, however it looks like the cable I was using to the connect to the head unit had a loose connection. The unit started working intermittently when not in place and stopping when in position - we figured the cables were getting pushed around and that was causing the problem.

All sorted now, the unit started working intermittently and now it appears to be fine so I'm guessing it's just a dodgy cable :-)

I here this guy is pretty good, http://www.anthonyses.com/ But he only does cash from what I'm told. Good Luck. Finding someone who can actually work with electronic at component level anymore is a real challenge, most guys are just parts changers.

If it has a magazine, you'll have to remove it. Some magazines push in to latch and you can push to unlatch and pop out

Cd changer will not work

I had the same problem with my 2002 307SW.
I read on another forum to switch ignition off, remove CD changer from dash and disconnect. It then told me to remove the lid from the case unscrewing the screws marke 1 to 5 then remove the Cd's. The only problem with this is you need a special size 'star' driver bit which i did not have at home and could not unscrew them. What i did was to use a terminal screwdriver in the 2 larger screws that fasten the front plastic cover on the unit. Once I had done that I could remove the CD's.
I then connected the changer back up and inserted it back into the dash. I then powered the radio back up anf loaded a CD and the problem had gone away so I loaded the 5 CD slots and everything works fine now.
