Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

6 Answers

I have just had my new Canon Pixma MP610 installed. The photo-copying is great but the colour on the printer is way off. I have spoken to Canon and asked them which of the various Canon profiles that I seem to have is best for plain paper. Their responce was that there isn't one and I should use photo paper. I only want to run out pictures to be a resonable match (I'm a photographer and use an epson for the final prints) but need to use plain paper. Canon support said it could be photoshop, but I have run ourt photos through windows wizerd and they are just as bad. Any answers?

The colours are over saturated with a red biase - ghastly for flesh tones, making them very orange

  • sarahcoldham Aug 05, 2008

I understand all about specific papers for printing on photographic paper. I just wondered if any one new whether this sort of colour biase is nornal on ordinary bond plain paper. And whether it can be rectified by using a different profile?

Dear Sir/Madam,

You get really good quality prints out of it using the regular photo paper (the current packaging is bronze.) The premium (silver) and ultra premium (gold) produce really high quality prints. Some would call it professional, but it really doesn't compare to the prints I get from my lab.

In the driver, depending on which paper you have, select
Photo Paper Pro, Photo Paper Plus Glossy, or Glossy Photo Paper. Usually there is a sheet that comes with the paper that tells you which to select.

There is also a very common problem that most people don't know about, but really affects their prints. That is working with an uncalibrated monitor. A calibrated monitor produces true colors. To calibrate your monitor properly, you'll need something like the Datacolor Spyder, or the Pantone Huey. Most people are surprised at how much of a difference it really makes and also that they had never heard about it.

Take an additional step and also calibrated your printer. I have the Datacolor Spyder3Studio. With both of them calibrated, I know that what I see on the screen is really close to what I will see when I print it out.

At the minimum, you should look at getting a monitor calibrator. Canon provides pretty good color profiles with their printers, so you can get by with just using the standard profiles for it.

Thanks
Good luck

Have you tried cleaning the corona wires? There are generally two modules. Pull out and clean with cotton-swabs

Check to see if the printer is set to print on regular paper instead of photo paper. There's a huge difference in the way the machine applies the ink form one type paper to the other.

Sometimes the paper is also a bgi problem here because printers has their paper specifications that you can use for it to get the best result that you want if that paper that you're using is not with those type of paper that the printer will really work well that will be a problem, I believe you can find it on the user manual on what type of paper this prnter can give the best result..

Good luck....

The colors should be close on plain paper as they would be on photo paper. Are the colors off by a tint or saturation, or are they the completely wrong colors (like reverse or a total pallate swap)?

Can I save a scanned image using MP610?

Yes. PIXMA MP610 is a multifunction printer that has printer/copier/scanner capabilities.
Just install the software and drivers supplied with your printer (or download them from CANON ) and connect the printer do the computer.
The printer sofware will guide you through the operation of scanning an image and saving it to a a file in the computer.
Below is a link to CANON product support pages, from where you can dowload the software and drivers for the printer and also guides and manuals.

Problem using OCR with Canon MP610 all-in-one

I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.
