The Magellan Manual does not address my problem. I used this link : for Magellan Installation Instructions. The camera alert application came from the website. I followed the Instructions until I got to #10 and their is where I am totally lost. I used Magellan Explorer WinRAR to zip the files. I turned the GPS on, clicked on the urs file and the WinRAR extracted the files to the GPS. I unplugged the gps from the computer, took a ride in my car with the gps on travel to a street with a redlight camera and it did not appear on the gps. The files are on the gps folder but is not recognizing the files.

I used the Magellan download instructions and stopped at #10 because I do not understand the computer language at that point. After downloading the redlight camera files from their site and saving them in Document , my magellan folder and within that folder, a POI folder. I used Magellan Exployer to zip the files, connected the GPS, open the GPS file the files appeared on the Magellan Explorer WinRAR Manager. I disconnected the GPS, went for a ride in my car , road to a street with a relight camera and nothing appeared on the gps. It did not recognize the downloaded POI files. Help.

Flw1952 responded once to my problem. I am trying to download a traffic light alert file from I consulted the Magellan Manual and it did not have information for downloading files except updates. This is the link to the instructions I own a Magellan model 3045LM GPS.I did download the traffic light poi files to my document folder named "My Magellan" In that folder I created a new folder, POI. placed the zipped traffic light file there ,connected the GPS unit the files were imported to the GPS URS folder by Magellan Explorer winrar. What to do after that I am lost. Again, that was #10 in the Magellan Instructions.

Just restore the set to its factory default setting and then try to download GPS POI. To set the device to factory defaults, do the following.

Default System Settings

Restoring All Default System Settings

It is useful to set a GPS position if you are not receiving satellite information quickly due to travelling over 800

km/500 mi with the Magellan RoadMate receiver turned off. Setting the GPS position will allow the Magellan

RoadMate receiver to compute which satellites are available and calculate the position more quickly.

1. From the Main Menu screen, tap the Settings icon.

2. Tap GPS Options.

3. Tap Set GPS Position.
Enter an address as you were selecting a destination.

Backing Up and Restoring Data (not available on the

Magellan RoadMate 2036)

Backup and restore provides a way of storing the address book

and other data on an optional micro SD card inserted in your

Magellan RoadMate receiver.

When the data has been backed up, it can be restored at any time.

Please note that when you restore from backed up data, address

book and other data will be replaced with the restored data. The

Magellan RoadMate receiver cannot append backed up data to

your existing data.

1. Insert a micro SD card in your Magellan RoadMate receiver.

2. From the Main Menu screen, tap the Settings icon.

3. Tap Backup and Restore.

• Tap Backup My Data to save your user data and settings on the inserted micro SD card.

• Tap Restore Saved Data to overwrite your user data and setting with a previous backup available on the

inserted micro SD card.
• Tap Restore All Default Settings to reset all settings to their factory defaults.

Magellan roadmate 2120T too slow after updates

Magellan support was actually pretty good helping me with the exact same issue. The problem (at least in my case) was that the map files were fragmented. I tried using the Windows defragmenter, but that made fragmentation even worse! The Magellan support engineer recommended I download UltraDefrag instead:

Here's what I had to do to completely resolve my issue:
1. Download and install UltraDefrag
2. Connect my GPS to my PC
3. Move the MAP directory from my GPS drive (J:) to my hard disk
4. In UltraDefrag, make sure Action > Skip removable media is not selected
5. Run the optimizer (Ctrl-F7 or Action > Full optimization) after selecting the GPS drive (J: on my computer)
6. Copy the MAP files back to the J: drive AFTER optimization has completed

I double-checked the fragmentation after the files were copied and got 0%. After disconnecting the GPS from the PC, the unit rebooted and doing an address search no longer takes 15 seconds. POI searchs are also much faster than before.

How do you download a POI off a internet site

I tend to use

It gives you the option of sending it DIRECTLY to a GPS but to do that your GPSmust be connected to your computer and the software for the GPS must be running.

Itmay take more than one attempt (sometimes takes a couple of tries with tomtom's)

The other method is to download it as a ZIP file and extract that zip file to the POI folder on your GPS then add it manually from the GPS itself or use the GPS software to update the POI.

If its from the Magellan site then you still have similar options and the unit does need to be connected or you can also use a memory card to transfer to the GPS if its is a pro unit that is hard wired to a vechicle or boat.

Hi It is more important to know how to add POIs. Here is a simple tip:

1. Create some directory especially for download. I use the following one: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM

2. Download and save all CSV and BMP files to that directory. You may create any subdirectory and use it to save POIs for that category.
I use: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Restaurants, C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Petrol etc.

3. Garmin's POI Loader will find all files in these subfolders and will use them to create a category.
Garmin POI Loader will search through the directory C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM and will create/transfer all corresponding POIs to your connected GPS.

4. You can remove any POI file simply by removing it from your POI folder. and re-running the POI Loader software. This POI update procedure takes about 1-2 minutes.

In summary, keep your POI files updated on your PC and run POI Loader to update your GPS or SD card via any SD card reader.

Having problems with poi loader cant find csv file to be able to download files.unit is a garmin c31o

Here's how you get custom POI files on a Nuvi:

1. Download and install Garmin's POI Loader.

2. Create a folder on your computer, suggest Desktop, with a name like "Custom POIs". The name and location doesn't matter but you have to remember what it's called and where it is.

3. Go online and look for 3rd party POI files. Places like have dozens if not hundreds of files.

4. Select ones you want on your gps to download. Make sure you are getting the files in the correct format. Newer Nuvis use *.csv files. Not sure if the C310 does. Download your POI files into the folder you created.

5. Plug your USB cable into the GPS and your computer. Wait until the driver finishes loading.

6. Run POI Loader and follow the instructions until you get to a screen asking for location of POI files. Point it towards the folder you created. Next tell it to load the POI files. After a few seconds it should give you a message "XXXX data points successfully loaded".

You should now be able to go to POI/Extras screen and see "Custom POI Files". Open that up and your custom POIs should be there.

POI menu with custom POI does not appear anywhere on the C330?

You need to use Garmin POI loader to input custom POI. After loading POI's they will show up in "My Favorite" under "Custom POI"
