Question about Dell Dimension 2350 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Well when i go on the sound, speech, and audio and go to adjust the sound every thing is gray and white. It was working like 4 months ago but no one even messed with it to do anything with the sound. My computer is a dell desktop dimension 2350 series. And i don't know what the sound disk looks like nor does it say sound devise or what ever it should say.

How to detect microphone in laptop

Hi,

I think it would be better if we check that the built-in microphone is working on your machine.

Internal microphone

The internal microphone is located near the top of the notebook LCD display or near the bottom of the LCD display near the hinge. Use the following best practices to better capture sound with the microphone.

-Adjust the notebook PC screen to place the microphone in the best direction for receiving sound.

-Speak directly into the microphone. Avoid speaking away from the microphone.

-When using the internal microphone, choose an environment without background noise.

Testing the record function on the notebook PC

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Sound Recorder .
2. Click Record (the red dot) and speak into the microphone.
3. When you are finished recording, click Stop (the gray rectangle).
4. To play back the recording, click Play (the gray arrow pointing to the right).

If happens that the recording with the microphone have no sound we have check the settings.

Checking microphone settings

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Volume Control .
2. A Volume Control or Master Volume window opens.
3. Click Options , and then Properties .
4. Select Recording , and make sure Microphone is selected.
5. Click OK . The Volume Control window should change to a Recording Gain Control window.
6. Click Options again and then click Advanced Controls . If Advanced Controls is unavailable, then an alternate microphone is not available. Proceed to the next series of steps.
7. Remove the check next to Alternate microphone , click Close , and test the microphone. If there is still no sound, continue to the next step

Ensuring the correct recording device is selected

1. Access sound properties:

-In Windows XP, to access the sound control panel applet, click Start , then Control Panel . Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices , and then click Sounds and Audio Devices .

-In Windows 95, 98, and Me, click Start , Settings , and Control Panel . Double-click Sounds and Multimedia , or Multimedia . The Sounds and Multimedia Properties window opens.

2. Click the Audio tab.

3. Under Sound Playback , select the audio device that is installed on the computer (there should be only one).

4. Under Sound Recording , select the audio device that is installed on the computer. It should be the same as the listing under Sound Playback .

5. Click OK .

6. Close the Sound and Multimedia Properties window and test the recording.

Feel free to reply if happens the steps I've told you is not working. Hope it helps.

There's no Audio Device in System Information, the sound and audio device is in gray.I cannot click any of these because its in gray.

Hi. I hope I can help you with this.
My Dell did the samr thing a couple of months ago, so I had to figure it out the hard way, At least now, because of what I had to do, I can tell you what to do in this area.

There are 2 major companies out there that provide the software and codecs to make sound functions work on motherboards, Soundmax, and Realtek.

I found out the hard way that the Soundmax drivers are very motherboard specific, despite what they had told me. I tried with their software 4 times before I gave up. Then I went to the Realtek website, and the first time I tried their software it worked for me.
I can't guarantee it will be that way with your motherboard, but Realtek's software is supposed to work with all major mobo manufacturers.

Just go to http://www.realtek.com/ and follow the download links on their website. They offer different versions of their software depending on what operating system that you have. Select whether you want an executable version, or a zip file, and download it. I chose the exe version, because I didn't want to have to worry about where the zip file was stored or anything else.
I just downloaded the exe file and ran it, then after it was done, I rebooted my computer. TADA!!!
Sound was once again working, and it even sounded clearer than it had before.

I hope this helps you today!

Every thing is ok but my computer have no sound.

Check in control panel and if your audio devices are grayed out then all you need to do is download your drivers. check your speakers on another system or check another set of speakers on your system (make sure they are connected properly). Always check for viruses, spyware, malware, etc. Usually it's a driver issue. Go to your manufacturer's website (i.e. www.hp.com, www.dell.com, www.dell.com) etc. and download your drivers and reboot your machine. Have fun!

My system im not geting the sound

If you already have installed your sound driver (which can be found in the CD bundled up with your PC) then try clicking the audio icon that's located in your taskbar. See if it isn't muted or adjust the volume of the speakers. If you cannot see it from your taskbar, click 'Start' menu and go to the control panel. Click on 'sounds, speech and audio devices' and click on the 'adjust the system volume'. If it still doesn't work, try using other audio devices/speakers.

Can not hear sound

Hello,

Try going to support.dell.com and entering your Service Tag. Then click on drivers and downloads and download and install the audio driver that they currently recommend for your machine. Sounds like a driver problem and something that wasn't set properly after the computer was reset.
