Hello Kenn,

Welcome to FixYa.

When you say "pushing start button/now dryer has stopped all together" does this mean there is no sound or movement at all ?
Also if you can confirm it is indeed a Kenmore and provide the entire model number that would be a great benefit to determining what may be at fault as opposed to generalizing about "dryers" ( they can be quite different ) and speaking directly to your machine.
Let me know and we can go from there. I will watch for your post.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

Thank you for the reply and providing the model number.

When you say "after repeatedly doing this the dryer stops working altogether", are you indicating...

    1) the unit won't remain running so you attempt to start it many times over ?

    or

    2) do you mean after several loads in succession it stops altogether ?

It sounds to me as the start switch is stuck in the start/ "closed" position, if it is indeed starting automatically upon closing the door and you'll need a new start switch.

If you have an ohm meter you can check the switch to confirm or dismiss if it is faulty. If you're not sure how I'll guide you.

Let me know if these are the symptoms or which scenario is truth, 1 or 2...or both and we can from there. Hope you can bair with the questions, it is necessary when trying to diagnose from afar.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

The problem is usually caused by a blown thermal fuse. Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse on the blower housing. The blower housing is located on the rear left bottom.

Bypass the thermal fuse by disconnecting the wires and connecting them together. Insulate them properly and plug the dryer back in. The thermal fuse is indeed blown and needs to be replaced if the dryer starts. Do not use the dryer with the thermal fuse bypassed due to fire hazards.

Push start button the dryer will tumble, but immediately stops

there is a relay that latches on when you push the start button .. that relay is released by the "door open" switch .. i would suspect that the "door open" switch is bad .. thats usually a button that is pushed in when the door is closed ..

Dryer stops when I release push to start button

Timer may need to be replaced. You can test it with an ohmmeter or test light.
You can do the same with the push button. If you have more problems, then the main control could be faulty

Whirlpool 110 electric dryer will not keep running

When you press the start button you complete a circuit bringing the juice into your dryer to run the motor the igniter or heating elements and what ever else goes whee when your dryer is drying. So if you press the button to complete the circuit then when you let go of the button it would stand to reason that it break that flow and shut it all down. However in a dryer there is something of a centrifugal switch that kicks in and keeps that circuit open and flowing with juice once the drum begins to turn and you let go of the button. That's why in a normal situation if you don't hold the button down long enough the dryer will cut right back off or if you open the door to the dryer to throw something in and close it before it quits turning it will stay running. Sounds like you could add this centrifugal switch to the list of possible culprits in this mystery. O7OUT

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor
