Reset forgotten Windows Vista Account Passwords

My son has an HP laptop and playing around, changed his password and then couldn’t get into his account. There were a number of problems here, any of which we could have fixed had we been paying more attention earlier on (like soon after he got his laptop):
  1. We could have created a password recovery disk (which can also be on a USB keyfob) – but we didn’t.
  2. We could have created a secondary administrative account on the machine with a password known only to me, his dad – but we didn’t.
We’ve now done both of these things since we were able to restore access to the machine under his previous password. But it was a bit of a trick to get access under the previous password. I figured we were going to have to reinstall Vista, using the File and Settings transfer program to first grab his old settings and files, and then reinstall all the programs – probably a 3-4 hour undertaking. But then I had another thought.
Method 1. The key here was using Vista’s System Restore feature.
The exact steps will probably vary on your machine (and this is from my memory on his HP laptop, having just done this) but roughly what we did was:
  1. Harangue him for a few hours to try to remember his password, try different variations (with and without caps lock on, for instance) and try omitting characters he might have thought he typed when he changed the password but didn’t. That didn’t work. icon_smile.gif
  2. Reboot the machine and press F11 while it’s booting – on HP machines, this gets into the "recovery console" which is thoughfully put on the system disk in a separate partition by HP.
  3. Select to restore the system (note: not restore to it’s original factory condition – that will reformat your main partition and wipe out your files, which we really wanted to avoid).
  4. Chose to reset to an early restore point – in his case, there was a restore point just four days old. Vista creates these restore points regularly. The only thing he had done in the last four days was reset his password, so I thought there was a chance that Vista might reset the old password along with the restore point. I wasn’t sure it would, but I thought it was worth a try.
  5. It took about ten minutes for Vista to do this and it then rebooted – and he was thrilled that he was able to log in with his old password!
I’ve used System Restore in other cases to get rid of really wierd behavior, and it always works like a charm. This is yet another use.
Oh, yeah, and we then created a secondary administrative account on the machine. Do that right now if you have a laptop with just one admin account – then squirrel away the password somewhere safe at home and you’ll thank yourself one day.
Method 2. Use windows password key 8.0
Step1: Choose the existing windows password key 8.0 image file.
You can click "Browse" to browse Windows Password Key 8.0 image file. The file is usually located as the default.
Step2: Choose your CD/DVD drive:
Select "CD/DVD" and specify the CD burning drive from the pull-down list. Insert a blank CD/DVD disk into the CD-ROM drive.
Step3: The burning process starts.
Windows Password Key extracts the ISO image and copies the necessary files on a CD.
Step 4: Put in your newly created CD and remove your Windows password:
1. Insert newly created CD in your CD drive and reboot your computer.
When the CD boots, you’ll see Windows Password Key 8.0 initializing (see screen shot below). If so, you can continue to the next step. If the computer boots still boots into Windows, it’s necessary to change your computer’s setup to make it boot from the CD.
Step 5: restart the machine.

Enter the recently changed password for the local user. Then you will get the above message stating ‘The user’s password must be changed before logging on the first time’
Click OK and type in the new password

Voila, you have just changed the password for the local account. Now you can login with the newly created password.

My son put a password on my other pc, how can i take it off?

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

Cannot get onto my laptop toshiba l40-14n my son as put in a password and i cannot get onto it and i cannot do factory settings as i have documents which i need

Press f8 button while you press power button, this way, u ll reach to options where u can select Safe Mode and reach your windows to get the important documents of yours. Removing the battery (cell) on the motherboard and placing it again removes any kind of passwords applied, but its difficult to get to the motherboard in case of Laptop.

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

also

Remove a small coin sized CMOS battery to store all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.

Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computerthe location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.

How to reset a toshiba satellite a135-s4527

You may reset the password on your own.

Windows Password Recovery is right what you need in your case. The password recovery tool is designed to reset Windows login password once you accidentally forgot it or have no access to your system including Windows 7, Vista, XP etc. By burning a bootable CD, you can enter almost any computer with Windows administrator login password protected within a few seconds. Here are the step by step tutorial, pretty easy, I am sure you can handle it!

Step 1: Download Windows Password Recovery and install it on another computer.
Step 2: Prepare a blank CD/USB and run the software and use it to burn the ISO file to it.
Step 3: Put it into the CD-ROm and restart your locked computer. Change the BIOS setting of your locked computer to make it boot from the CD-ROM or USB drive. Note: start computer and press F2 or Delete to enter BISO setup
Step 4: Boot your locked computer from the created disk and remove your forgotten password. GOOD LUCK!
