1 make sure your windshield and the suction cup are clean.
If that doesn't do it, there is a problem with the suction cup.
2 if the suction cup is bad you make it work a little longer by putting a little Vaseline around the edges of the suction cup.
3 if that does not do it, you need a new suction cup or an after market mount.
4 if you have one of those small Net-book computers, you can build a mount like the cops have in their cars and get Microsoft Streets and Trips. It comes with a USB GPS dongle. I put a short extension on it so that it doesn't get bumped and damage the USB port and you can hang it from the mirror if you want.. I like it better because it has a big screen. It also has video and sound recorder if you want to record the cop if you get stopped.
5 get a dash mount for your cell phone if it has a gps sensor and then get a free navigation app. My cell phone finds places that my Garmin can't find.

Get the bean bag mount and thank me later. You can put vaseline or what ever you want on the sucktion mounts but when rubber dries out it dries out. The bean bags last forever..

I believe they all do that, I own a Garmin and I bought what looks like a bean bag because I got tired of my suction cup mount falling off my windshield. The nice thing about the bean bag mount is that you can move it closer to you and place it anywhere on your dash. I bought mine on ebay from the Mount Guys they have a big selection of mounts for all types of GPS's take a look you might want to make the change too.

I hope this helps you out and if it did please leave me some feedback

Brian - you should contact Garmin directly at www.garmin.com - this site is not affiliated with Garmin in any way. I'd suggest that you secure the GPS to the center of the windshield or use the semi-permanent dash mount instead of suction cup mounting to the windshield near the driver window.

Good luck!

Suction cup mount keeps falling off windshield . Works for about 1 - 3 days and then just lets go.

The suction cups ****, don't they? ;-)

The problem is that temperature variations (bright sun vs. cloudy day) causes pressure changes inside the vacuum seal, and it eventually fails.

You can try spraying the cup with water before attaching it...the water helps the cup keep a better seal. Vaseline works even better.

Ultimately, I ended up buying a universal mount that fits right onto one the dash ventilation louvers...no problems since.

Plastic pholder for my Garmin 255W will not stick to windshield

The glass and attachment suction cup should be clean and free of oils, dust hair etc. Try cleaning both surfaces. If this doesn't workyou can order a new holder from Garmin.

Here is what I do. I clean the spot on the windshield very good with Windex or another good window cleaner. I also clean the suction cup surface while I am doing the windshield. Next I place the GPS next to the Rearview Mirror. and connect the suction cup. Then I take the power cord and use it to tie a knot around the suction cup mount and then I loop it around the Rearview mirrow twice leaving no slack between the GPS and the Mirror. Be sure to not block you view in the mirror. If the GPS come loose from the windshield it will just fall far enough for the power cable to catch it and will just be swiing there instead of falling to the dashboard or floor. This is kind of a Mickey Mouse way to do things but it works.

Have you tried wetting the suction bottom before applying it? Also, try looking into a Garmin friction mount. It's a heavy bean-bag like mount that is filled with lead pellets and has a rubber bottom that won't slide on your dash. It's easily removable, legal in all 50 US states and you'll prevent damage to your Nuvi as your Nuvi won't fall from the glass and hit the dash.

Suction cup problem

Make sure your windshield and the bottom of the suction cup is clean. Clean it with some warter & detergent and wipe dry. Try wetting the bottom of the suction cup before applying it to the window.

I recommend not using the window mount. I recommend using the dash friction mount. You take the risk of cracking your LCD screen when it falls.

1. The dash friction mount will not fall.
2. It's easily removable/
3. It's legal in all 50 states (window mount is not).

Hello rkfowler,

While the suction cup mounts included with most GPS units are very effective, they certainly can fail. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to make it work: cleaning both the windshield and the cup itself. You also might try putting a few drops of water onto the suction cup before affixing it.

If the suction cup mounts aren't working out for you, Garmin does have a couple of other options including a vehicle mount that uses a super strong adhesive or a friction style mount. These are available from Garmin directly on their website (www.Garmin.com) or through your local consumer electronics store, such as Best Buy.

Best Regards,
Ken

Legal to place on dashboard in San Antonio, Texas ?

On Page 55 of the Nuvi Owner's Manual it states to check with your state and local traffic laws before mounting and that currently state laws in California and Minnesota prohibit suction mounts on the windshield. No mention of any other states. Your Nuvi Owner's manual is contained in your Nuvi and is also available as a download from Garmin.com
