AF-S setting on Nikon D50

The AF-A setting on a Nikon Camera is grayed out. I would like it to be set to AF-S. What else has to be changed to be allowed to adjust to AF-S?

How to set the monochrome parameter in nikon d50 dslr camera?

Hi there,
There is no monochrome parameter in the D50 as oppose to the D200. You will have to convert using software.
Hope this helps.

Nikon D50 will not auto focus.

Try cleaning the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Press the AF and exposure compensation buttons at the same time for a few seconds.
These are on the top right as you hold the camera. They have small green dots beneath them to remind you.

Nikkon d50 wont auto focus

the D50 will only auto focus with an AF-S lens...make sure you are using an AF-S lens.

Also, check the swithc on the lens is set to "A" not "M" ...

Also, in the menu, check you set the camera as autofocus, not manual focus

The auto focus is not working on my Nikon D50

I assume the AF/M switch on the body is set to AF as well? This has not been mentioned but the D50 has two drive systems for AF.

Hi all - I know its been some time for this thread, but it helped me! When I pressed the shutter release I would hear a high pitch winding - thought it was the shutter and almost took it in for repair. Saw solution #5 - turned the AF switch on the lens to manual and back to auto - took care of the problem completely.

To answer your flash question...the Nikon flash system fires the flash when the camera thinks the picture will be too contrasty without the flash. You can Google for "fill flash" to learn more. This is usually beneficial; if not, holding the flash button and turning the main dial will cycle through flash options on the top screen.

I have this problem too - Nikon have looked at the camera and said I set up a custom setting so that the focus only works when you press the AE/AF Button (!). I also had a problem with the flash not working - its looking like this is a known problem. I think I was sold a Turkey
