Is it actually getting hot? If so, make sure it's getting the required ventilation and that you're not over-driving it. Page 5...

Fuse

Fuses blow when there is an overload. The overload is often caused by a short-circuited semiconductor, such as a transistor. More often than not it is one or more of the main power amp devices located on a large heat-sink.

How do you connect wiring to bridge an adcom gfa 5300?

The manual does not specify a bridging option.

http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/amplifiers/adcom/gfa-5300/prd_116265_1583crx.aspx

"Weaknesses:
Not bridgable."

Generally an amp that IS bridgeable uses the positive speaker terminals and some switching method to tell the unit to run as bridged. This is NOT a recommendation to try it on the 5300.

One channel thermal overload stays lit and no output from that channel. even after unit sits overnight, thermal light on immediately, unit not hot. Looking for schematic?

Red light is on if:
- thermal protection, overheated amp, bad thermo sensor
- DC at speaker terminals
- high current at output transistors
Also could be a protection circuit malfunction.
In any case you need new channel module or send your module or whole amp for repair here.
Thanks,
Paul

Schematic drawing of Adcom GFA-5300/how to check driver circuits

The driver circuits should be just before the outputs in the circuitry. The easiest way to check this circuit is to remove the outputs and turn on the unit. Measure each of the transistor pads relativce to ground for DC voltage. You should see the following: B+,0.6V (or 1.1V), and 0V on one transistor and negative values on its compliment. If you have questions, measure the pads and post the measurements here. In some cases the output transistor needs to be in place to get the values above, so if yours don't measure that way, just post what you get and we'll continue from there.

Any special tools need to replace out put transistors?

Adcom systems in general are compact and not the easiest to work on. There are no specialized tools required. Just be careful as there can be wires that are short that can be damaged. Make sure that the driver circuits are OK prior to jsut replacing the outputs. If you don't you may just blow the replacement parts as well.

Adcom GFA 5500 right channel emits horrible sound. Broken highs and no bass. Is is repairable by a semi amatuer?

Adcom makes a great amplifer! Usually broken highs and no bass means blown speaker. Try hooking it up to a completely different input source. Try different speakers also. If problem persists, check the fuse. Most will have a fuse on the back you can screw out. Some have two fuses (one for each channel) If this doesn't fix the problem it could be expensive to fix. Also, does this model ave the thermal protection light and if so, does it come on at all?

Green light on but no sound from subwoofers or speakers

HI...IT COULD BE A BAD THERMAL FUSE NEAR THE OUTPUTS ....OR A COMPONENT HEATING UP TRIPPING THE THERMAL FUSE TO SHUT DOWN... OPEN IT UP SEE IF THE OUTPUTS ARE GETTING REALLY HOT.. IF IT IS NOT GETTING REALLY HOT... USE A JUMPER WIRE TO JUMP OUT THE THERMAL FUSE IF IT COMES RIGHT BACK ON.. GET A NEW THERMAL FUSE DON'T KEEP THE JUMPER ON (USE FOR TEST ONLY) GOOD LUCK
