Question about Briggs & Stratton Plumbing

1 Answer

I am using a Monarch BSGF-8 pump with Brigs and Stratton engine to pump a septic tank. It worked well for one septic, I moved it to another and now it won't pump, won't **** at all. Any ideas?

The pick up hose is not seated /connected properly to the pump or... there is a hole in the pick up hose above the water line. These are the only 2 things that cause this symptom unless the inlet for the pump is covered completely with debris. Check and see if some one lost the hose connection fitting gasket during the move between tanks. If your using a press fit hose to the pump... wrap it with tire wire or a large clamp so that it fits tighly onto the inlet. Check to make sure the hose is not dry rotted and cracked at the connection point also.

To simplify the above answer - you may have a air leak in the suction hose - fill the casing with water and turn on the pump if the waster is blown out and stops pumping you have an air leak in your suction line.

220.brigs and Stratton oil how much insump

A small qt bottle of SAE 30 wt oil, of ANY brand is fine for use in lawnmowers. The tolerances for the piston ring and cylinder are not so close to warrant more expensive synthetic blends. A simple std grade (cheapest) 30 wt is fine. It is a good practice to drain and refill your lawnmower engine before each cutting season, replace the air filter, and spark plug. Carburetors tend to foul so empty the gas tank at the end of each cutting season by letting the mower run out of gas... empty the float bowl, if it has a drain screw... this will keep varnish and gum from forming when you store it. Keep a spare cord on hand as they break when you least expect them to and when you need to use the mower. Hardware stores sell replacement cord, just cut to lengths as needed.

Have a monarch type a 1/2 hp model be-e50 effluent pump which runs constantly and will not **** off what are some of the reasons ?

If it is a submerged pump, it needs a "float switch", This is a (usually) a ball made of plastic that floats in the liquid and senses the level gets to a certain height it will allow the pump to run until the level is down below that height.

Septic tank pump is brand new. Our alarm just went off and we looked in tank and the water is very high.... could it be a faulty pump?

could be. could also be a clogged output line, a blockage in the septic field, even a sock stuck in the intake of the pump.
