My garmin seems to need help as it does not work after an all night charge. It goes on to the 2 or 3rd screen. Also, in the car,the cord might be weak at it says low battery, when I tried my daughters garmin, but it actually was well charged. can a hot car cause damage, please? Thanks

Have you tried plugging it into your computer to charge it yet? Garmin's can charge from your usb port or the car charger. If you dont have the USB cable for your computer you probably can get one at Bestbuy or Ebay. If after you charge it from your computer (and remember your computer has to be on while its charging) then I would suspect you have a bad battery in your unit. Then I would suggest to contact Garmin for repairs. Their website is www.garmin.com and they can help you from there. They have phone numbers and email address's to ask for tech support.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me feedback.

Have not used my Garmin since January 2011. Sitting on shelf. Plugged in to my car charger and would not turn on. Would this mean it needs charged?

After three months, I'm sure the internal battery needs to be charged. But even so, it should work when plugged into the car charger. The first thing you should do is check that the charger cord is connected properly at both ends. Mine has a green LED on the plug. If yours does, make sure that light goes on. Try jiggling the connectors at each end of the power cord. If it still doesn't work, the next thing to try is replacing the power cord. (Maybe you can borrow a power cord from a friend). If the power cord isn't the problem, I'm afraid the problem is in the Garmin itself. Good luck.

Unit shuts down while navigating with power cord plugged inalso seems to have dead pixels in screen

Dead pixels you can't do anything about without replacing the COLOR LCD TOUCH SCREEN. Which will probably cost as much as replacing the whole unit anyway.
As for shutting down while plugged in, that may be one of two things. Either the charging cord has gone bad (and they do go bad), or your not plugged into the lighter/charging port in your vehicle completely. Lastly, the charging cord for a Garmin GPS has a fuse in it, at the head that plugs into the charging port. Check it to see that it's not blown. Chances are it may be.

When I plug the power cord for my Garmin into the car, the display instantly is too dark to see anything. When the cord is removed and the Garmin is running on battery, the screen is fine. Shouldn't be...

Without knowing what model Garmin you have, perhaps there is a "night mode" illumination display option available and has been selected.

Sorry this is vague, but I hope it is of some benefit to you.

Good luck!

My Garmin nuvi 780 will not turn on. When I turn on, the Garmin logo shows on the screen. However, when "Loading Maps" is displayed, 1-2 seconds later the screen goes blank. This occurs when the unit is...

I had the same problem. When you have your nuvi plugged into your cigarette lighter it doesn't charge. Your battery is probaly near dead. I called Garmin and they told me to plug it into my computer via the usb cable. Turn the Garmin off and let it charge for several hours. That did the trick

Garmin car charger

There are thee ways to charge the Garmin 750, 1: thru a car cord that plugs into the base that your unit mounts on. 2. Thru an AC charger. 3: thru the USB port on the Garmin unit itself. In your case the car cord plugs into the base that mounts your unit to the window. If that is not working, check that you are getting power from your car receptical. Check by plugging your Phone in or buying an adapter at Radio Shack that checks it. Also check the plug that goes into your car recepticle. Your manual tells how to check the fuse that is located in the end of the plug. If neither of these work your mount connection is bad. Hope this helps

Help!

Turn on your garmin out of the car, connect to a PC via USB cable and see if the battery indicator goes away. If it does then the USB to PC cable is working and charging the unit. To test the car adapter, you can unscrew the tip of the plug to examine the fuse. Most Garmin car charger units have a light on them that ilimunates when you plug it in and turn the ignition. It could be that the plug is just loose in the socket. The picture shows the unit running on battery. If you plug in the usb cable and this indicator goes away, then it should be charging.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
