Question about Computers & Internet

When I tried to use "ok" to access stations on my favorite list, all the response I got was an immediate "getlist timeout" I tried restarting and going back to initial settings (wiping out my favorite list) after that I cannot access shoutcast, same "getlist timeout". I tried accessing world stations, and have had some success in placing those selections on my new favorite list, but its difficult to duplicate my old preferences since there is scant genre info on world stations. also for a long time I've had trouble with selections on my favorite list (that previously worked) stop working and only respond with an "error message 8" the only way around it was to return to shoutcast and reselect the site for a favorite.

I'm not accessing this internet radio through a PC, rather I am using a Sabre Internet Micro System, which operates stand-alone independently of any computer connection, so I don't have any way of modifying the database on the shoutcast, or world stations segments, other than the controls on the front of the unit, or on the remote control. It is connected to a wireless router that is attached to high-speed internet service coming from my cable TV provider, Mediacom. (there was an instruction manual provided w/the unit but scant info on error msgs or failures in it. If there is a more complete instruction book (preferably with easier to understand directions and fewer obscure or obtuse acronyms, I would be interested in obtaining a copy.

This is a Sabre Internet Radio/MP3 Encoding Micro System (about 8"w,8"d,7"h, with 2 external speakers, a small display screen, and a CD slot in front, most touch function controls are on the front and even more controls are on the separate remote keypad. On the bottom, as well as the instruction booklet is "Model # DIR 100 BKA, and date code: 09/2007. Logos on front include: Wifi Internet Radio, Direct Encoding, Grace Note, MP3, Real. This unit has many capabilities, many of which are beyond my need or comprehension, the only thing I've done is select a list of favorite radio stations, set my favorite local FM stations, and tried playing a music CD (but I have other CD players) The manual has 67 pages explaining many of the functions, often using terms and Acronyms I don't understand. My Wifi signal is unencrypted (so my neighbors might be spongind off it, as well as I can detect other Wifi signals in my neighborhood, but of weaker strengths. Since I'm able to access the "World Stations" but not the "SHOUTCast", I don't think the Wifi signal is a problem. (I have another smaller Internet Radio, but it doesn't have Shoutcast, only world radio tuning capability, and it works OK.

I hope you can find something I can try to do, maybe these internet radios weren't designed for computer dummies like me. I though it would be an easier way to listen without figuring out or tying up the computer. I'll be waiting for your suggestions. Thanks.

Hi there to help you better, can I get the model and manufacturer of your router and the software that you are using. With the new settings that you have or list that you have can you check if it works directly connected to the modem? This is to isolate if the router or something on your computer is causing this.

From what I gather Saber uses Penbex hardware and there's been a problem with it and shoutcast http://penbex.wordpress.com/2011/03/17/new-firmwares/ However they are fixing the problem with a new update and it should be available soon .

If you scroll down the page here http://penbex.wordpress.com/ you'll note that saber is on the list.
but that was for an older upgrade which you may already have. The shoutcast update is a new one
just posted on March 17th. So hopefully it will be available soon. The latest notice about the new update was posted March 24th stating they are working on it now.

Apparently you're not the only one who uses and likes shoutcast but has been unable to access it! I would have thought to look at your network connection but since you can get world radio that seems to be setup ok. I know this doesn't help you much at the moment but given there's been other complaints and that they are addressing the problem with a new update it's probably better to wait for the update then try getting a glitchy connection to work again only to have the same thing occurr again.

If I can find more that will help you I'll post it. Sorry I couldn't give you an immediate fix..

I forgot to mention that "time outs" have to do with an attempted connection that 'times out', takes too long to get a response which is the error you were getting. You can get that on a website too, or another type of server when it is either overloaded with signals trying to connect at the same time or when there's a problem on the server end ie it's down etc.

If you get time outs on everything you try to conect to then it can indicate you don't have a net connection. However when you can get on one place but not another then it's a different problem, either on the other end, not your machine, or a problem with the network set up such as needing to open a port. But in this case you have a radio that is made to connect directly to radio where it could get world radio but not shoutcast. So we know you do have a connection.

Hey,, sounds like there is a problem with your shoutcast profile,

your list is actually stored in a database, the reeor your getting is retrival for that database.

you can tray another browers, like modzilla firefox or google crome here are the links

GOOGLE CHROME

FIREFOX

but I strongly believe the problem isnt with you but a corrupted shoucast database. Unfortunately the only people that can help you with that is shoutcast themselves

http://www.shoutcastblog.com/

click that link, click contact us to the right of the page, fill out the form and tell them the problem your having, hopefully they can backup your profile and restore it without any loss of data from the corruption.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 03, 2011

Try to access your account from the pc and see if you still get the list time out error. !!! you ca also use the pc to back up yur list and then load it to another account.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 03, 2011

no the problem cannot be wifi or the internet connection it is eighter with the device or shoutcast itself and I'm thinking its the device. Jus havent figured i\out whats wrong with it yet..

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 03, 2011

ok figured it out, the getlist function loads your favorites, basically your favorites is corrupted. Thats why the get list fails. In other words its damaged. (not the device your favorites list) thats why you can create a new list. See if there is a way to back up your list (newer models do) if not then sadly its gone!. Now we can try to reset the device, the easiest way to do this is to drain the power system dry. we do this by leaving it unplugged for a while and then plug it back on. A while meaning at least 2 hours.

Ploblems with dmz-outside (webpage). pix

Remove this line:

static (DMZ,INSIDE) 10.10.0.0 10.10.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0

You don't need a translation going from a lower security level to a higher one. You will also need a nat line for the dmz so that pc's on the dmz will be translated outbound. The only connection that will work on the dmz is the webserver when he's sending traffic outbound with a source port of 80. Something like:

nat (DMZ) 101 10.10.0.0 255.255.255.0

Other than that, it looks like it should be working. You've got permission, a route, and a translation. Maybe "clear local-host 10.10.0.2" to get rid of any bad xlates and try again. Check debg level syslogs, run packet captures, "clear asp drop" then "show asp drop" after an attempt?

Cisco asa5505 problem

You seem to have the last resort (o.o.o.o) set to VLAN1 which is set as an inside interface.
Is VLAN1 connected to the outside router or internet backbone?
If not, change the last resort to the outside Ethernet port.
