Hi

Have a look on the top row of keys to see if one of the keys has a picture of what looks like a hand on it
on mine it is f7 key but some are f8 so on mine i would press the fn+f7 key which should enable/disable the touchpad

also you could go to device manager find the touchpad un install it restart laptop and windows should load it again hopefully working correctly for you

Do you have the user manual that may of been given to you when you ist bought the laptop
there may be one somewhere in your programs

or you could download and save to your desktop one from the hp official website but you will need to have adobe reader installed to be able to read it

The cursor will not move and I cannot use the laptop at all.

The cursur moves from the sensory pad, if the pad went out the cursur will not move.. I would start by installing an external wireless mouse or even a basic plug in mouse to the usb port and see if you can cntrol the cursor then. Cheap wireless mouses with a small included usb donggle can be used in place of the sensory pad cursor

Make sure you have not pressed the little button right above the mouse pad that toggles between locking the mouse pad or freeing the mouse pad.

Mouse cursor moving by itself

In windows xp go into start menu, then into control panel then click on appearance and themes, then move your mouse over to mouse pointers click on it , uncheck "enhance pointer precision, and click apply, that will stop the mouse from acting crazy, this will work with dell mouse pointers and most.

Mouse cursor moving by itself

i have latitude c610 and same problem happens with me too. i think that happens when i finish my brakfat and without cleaning my hands start using the touch pad. what happens according to me is that small particles of food(eg bread/dust particles) stuck in the corners or the body wall where the touch pad ends and keeps pressing the touchpad, thus causing the mouse to move to one direction. when i clean the corners and sides of the touchpad, it starts working ok !!

thanks
Johal

Cursor stuck in middle of screen

If you are using an external mouse, unplug it and see if it will go with the pad.If it works with the pad then its the exteranal mouse.
If you are using the pad you may have to replace the pad or recalibrate it using the pointer device, you can use the tab key to go through to the start menu then use the arrow keys to go to control panel.
Hope this helps
