so if the tape is faulty, the deck will sense the tension and auto shut off, or if one of the micoswitchs that detects that the dv tape is spilling tape, it may stop. unplug the machine and after a min replug in and try again

Hello, when dubbing from DV mini tape to HDD

well one solution may be the speed you are recording at. L.P. recording on a dvd often creates this problem. but usually it is when you copy dvd to dvd, not mini dvd to dvd
Never record more than 2 hrs on a disk
there are programs for a work around that reprocess the dvd vob file with adjustments for the sync.
could also be a hardware problem
is your mini dv long play source as well?

Cheers
Dave

JVC DR-MH30 keeps flashing ''loading'' after recent power cut

Measure the 5V line on the DVD drive,if to low replace the bad caps in power supply. There is an 22 microfarad elco you can upgarde to 47 microfarad to last longer.
If the 5V line is ok the problem could be the harddisk, this is not traceable without the proper software.

JVC SR-DVM700 Recorder

When I contacted JVC tech support their answer was this "On page 54 of the manual it describes how to connect to a DV device. This would be the same way to connect to a computer, but we do not guarantee operation".

Not much help if you ask me, but at this time there does not seem to be a problem to them and thus no real solution.
