Question about Trendware (TEW-MP1U) Print Server

1 Answer

Following the steps outlined in the wizard I did manage to install the print server utility on one of our computers (my wife's notebook / Windows 7) and get it to print successfully. However, when I tried the very same thing on my daughter's computer (with a TP-LINK wireless N PCI adapter) it stalls during the install giving me the rather vague error message "Network Error". I know its not the wireless adapter - it has been working flawlessly since I installed it. Her machine is a XP-Home machine. Thanks Ted

Oddly enough I did almost the exact same thing. I sucessfully installed and printed a test page on my wife's Win7 notebook, and was almost ready to install on my XP Pro notebook and daughter's computer. When I got it installed on my XP Pro notebook, it failed. Since then I have been trying to get the network to see it. It doesn't work! Even when I hardwire plug directly into my router, the router does not acknowledge something is plugged in. To eliminate the possibility of faulty networking cable, I used the same port and cable for my Apple TV unit. It worked just fine. The the TEW-MP1U appears to be a brick at this point. It only gives a green status light, my appears to have no network functionality any longer, wired or wireless. What gives?????????????

supporting troubleshooting links
? A: Please check the connection link light.

Temporarily disable all firewalls on your system even the Windows XP firewall
(for instruction to disable XP firewall, please go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673 )

Power cycle the print sever by unplug the power at the back (10 second).
The print server default IP is 192.168.5.1
Set the computer which has the print server utility installed to have an IP of 192.168.5.2

(Test ping the print server / 192.168.5.1 --
If print server is respond to ping, using web browser with the address of 192.168.5.1 will also beable to configure the print server)

Run the utility/hit the refresh button to find the print server again.
The CD has two installation methods:
1. The Auto run will run the utility.
2. By manually install the program into your system. (Browse CD to the folder: manual installation.)
It is recommended to use the 2nd method and run the PSAdmin utility from the system's programs after the installation is completed.
If it still could not find the print server, direct connect your computer to the print server using cross over cable and run the utility again to find the print server.
When it finds the print server, change the print server IP(192.168.5.1) to a unique static IP your router can accept. Put the print server back to the network, change back your computer's IP accordingly and try ping the print server with the new IP or run the utility again.

For wireless print server, it is recommended to use Ad-hoc connection from a wireless computer to connect to the print server first. (follow the Quick Installation Guide booklet that came with the box on page 8)

Want to install printer

If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista, you may simply plug in the printer to the computer, and the computer will install the generic driver.

By default, Windows XP and Vista already has the generic driver installed.

However, if the printer is not a Plug-n-Play device, you will need to load the CD that came with the printer, and follow the installation wizard.

Thank you and good luck!

  • Troubleshooting Setup and Install If your device is not recognized:
    • Verify that your cable is USB 2.0 high-speed compliant.
    • Ensure that your cable is connected correctly. Remove the USB cable, look at the end of the cable, and then match it to the pattern on the USB port. Make sure that it is not upside down. Insert one end of the USB cable completely into the USB port on the HP device and the other end into the back of the computer.
    • Check that the peripheral is turned on. Peripherals will not be recognized if the power is off.
    • Ensure that your USB cable is no more than 15 feet or 5 meters in length.
    • Check that the USB port is enabled. Some computers ship with disabled USB ports.
III. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS When operating in a Windows environment, the CD-ROM setup or installation software detects the version of the operating system that you are running. IoGEAR printserver GPSU21 with VISTA

Yes, the GPSU21 is tested to work with Vista 32 and 64-bit Operating System. The things you need to do is listed below:

1. There's no need for you to install the CD that came with it, if the MFP Utility is already installed in another computer.

2. Get the IP Address of the GPSU21 from the computer that has the MFP Utility installed.

- Open the MFP Utility > locate TCP/IP at the lower portion of this window and click the plus (+) sign. > get the IP Address.

3. After getting the IP Address of it, go to your Windows Vista computer and ping the IP Address (just to make sure that Vista is seeing the Print Server).

- To ping, follow the steps below:
-
- Click the start menu and open the MS DOS Command Promt.
- On the black screen, type this "ping (type the IP Address of the print server): just like this
- C:WINDOWS\Desktop\Scott>ping 192.168.x.x and then hit enter.

4. Once you get ping statistics 4 packet sent; 0% loss. Then the Print Serve is communicating with Vista.

5. On you Windows Vista computer, make sure that the printer is working when directly connected to it. Because there could be a possibility that the printer driver is not properly installed that's why the server is not working.

6. On Vista, go to the Control Panel > Printers > Locate the printer icon (the one that is set as you default printer)

7. Right-click on the printer icon and then select properties > go to Ports tab.

8. Click on Add port button > select Standard TCP/IP > click on "New Port" (beside Cancel)

9. Hit next > type the IP Address of the print server. > Next

10. Click on Custom > Settings button

11. For Protocol: select LPR

12. For the Queue Name: type L1 > Click on OK > Finish.

13. Then under the printer properties, you will see the Standard TCP/IP is selected

14. Hit Apply so that the printer name would appear right next to that port > OK

15. Try printing a test page.

NOTE: After following the steps, you should be able to print using your Vista computer. I configured this print server with Vista several times and it does work with Vista.

Installation wizard does not locate the WPSM54G

hello!

what is the model number of your printer? if your setup cd is not detecting your printserver, try the ff:

-- while pc and printserver connected to the router and your printserver connected to your printer. try to reset the printserver for 30sec. Is it printing? If yes, do you see any IP address on the print out

-- If no, unplug the power for 5 seconds and plug the power back in of the printserver then try again to run the setup cd. you may also check your routers dhcp server table if its detecting the printserver

-- if printserver still not detected ty to connect printserver directly to your computer

-- search if you have bi admin utility on your setup cd and install it on your pc

-- manually assign static ip address on the printserver using the bi admin utility and on the pc

-- if successful, connect printserver and pc back to the router and check if you can ping the ip address of your printserver
