Question about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D IS Digital Camera

2 Answers

I'm having trouble attaching any other cannon lenses to my camera. I notice the interface between the camera body and the 18-55 lens is plastic. When I try to mount Higher end Cannon L series and others, I find I cannot turn and connect the lens to the body. Is this problem repairable and If so, expensive? Thanks, Greg

Canon states that this camera is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses. Where did you get your information? If what you say is true, then what lenses are compatible with my camera? I want to use a canon EF 70/300mm f4-5.6 IS USM.

    Thanks,

    Greg

If they have the red dot on the lens and the camera you should be fine. If they have the read dot and the white square on both they should be fine. You can order new bayonet mounts for that camera from canon. And the e series is low end the i is intermediate and the L is luxory so it is very heavy duty. Hope this helps

Hi,

The lens is not compatible with the model specified. You need to get proper canon lens for your camera. Sorry to say that you need to get new lens for your model.

Hope this helps.

Here are 3 pictures of a Sigma lens for Nikon. Your lens should look about the same. Could be a little less connection points, but notice there is no plastic.

I have Cannon A-1 and F-1 Camera bodies, plus all Cannon FD lens. Can I buy a new Cannon digital camera and use a special adapter and use those older FD lens. I would appreciate any reasonable input. JD

No. The only adapters you can get either lose infinity focus or need corrective optics (expensive and reduce image quality) to preserve infinity focussing. The lenses will need to be manually stopped down for metering purposes and the body will only be able to use manual and aperture priority modes.

Also, with modern computer designed optics, using FD lenses on a modern digital SLR is like screwing an old glass bottle on the front and hoping to get sharp images. An exaggeration, perhaps, but you will get significant edge softness and chromatic aberrations and the contrast will be lower than acceptable and truly dreadful with optically corrected adapters.

My cannon rebel eos DS6041 displays error 99 when

'Error 99' indicates some problem with the AF contacts. This is a common error in Canon lenses. It could indicate a very simple problem like dirty contacts or a much serious one like the breakage of USM cable.
As a first step, you can try cleaning the lens and body contacts (the metal contacts between the lens and body) using a pencil eraser. Be careful to hold the body facing down so that no dust falls inside. After cleaning both the lens and the body contacts, re-attach the lens and try shooting. If the AF does not work still, you need to take the lens to an authorized service center.

I was given a sigma mirror-telephoto lens (600mm) It says right on it that it is for a Cannon. I have Cannon Rebel xt and cant figure out how to attach it. Does it work with a Rebel? And if so how? Do I...

You need a T-mount ($30) for a Canon on E-bay or a big camera store. There is NO connections to the camera body, so you have to turn off auto focus and go to "Auto" mode (the shutter speed will change) as the lens is fixed at F8. The mirrors give very little depth of field, 4 or 5 feet when far away but everything in back is a blur of circles. At F8 the shutter speed can go slow and at 600mm you may need a tripod.

I have got an EOS Elan II E Film Camera (Cannon). I want to know Cannon has camera with a digital body which suits the lens attachment of EOS Elan II E.

Hi, all canon EOS digital cameras can take all EF lenses. An EF lens from 1989 will fit a Digital body from 2009.
The newer EF-S lenses will only work with the smaller APS-C size sensors on the cheaper consumer bodies.
Hope this answers your query, please take the time to rate!

Cannon lenses

All canon EF lenses (and compatibles e.g. Sigma EX) can be used with both analog and digital  EOS-bodies. Depending on the sensor size (usually smaller than a 35 mm negative) a crop-factor due to the smaller field of view must be considered.  Example: Canon EF 50mm/1.8 lens used on a digital EOS (40D, crop factor 1.6) equals a 80mm lens (50mm x 1.6) compared to analog cameras using 35mm film. Some digital EOS-models can also use EF-S lens-series.

Canon 20d - lens stuck / jammed

HI BRIAN ,,I AM SAGHA CAMERA REPAIRER,I THINK UR PROBLEM OCCURS DUE TO JAMMING OF PLASTIC MOUNT ON THE METAL BODY OF 20D.TRY THIS

1} LUBRICATE THE JUNCTION WHERE LENS GET ATTACHED TO THE BODY WITH KEROSENE THEN TRY TO RELEASE THE LENS.REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM CAMERA ,TRY AND HEAT UP THE JUNCTION WITH HAIR DRYER A LITTLEBIT THEN TRY TO RELEASE THE LENS.

2}IF THIS THING ALSO DOESN'T WORK THEN YOU HAVE TO SACRIFICE THE LENS PLASTIC MOUNT PUT SOME SHARP KNIFE LIKE OBJECT IN THE JUNCTION OF LENS & CAMERA & THEN PUSH IT UPWARDS WHICH WILL BREAK ONE OF THE PLASTIC LENS MOUNT COLLOR AND LENS WILL COME OUT WITHOUT DAMAGING YOUR CAMERA .LATER YOU CAN GET REPLACED THE LENS MOUNT FROM SERVICE PERSON. BUT NOW ATLEAST YOU CAN USE CAMERA WITH OTHER LENSES.

Cannon ef-s 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 lens

"err99" means the camera cannot talk to the lens which is why the camera is not working in auto mode with that lens. There could be several issues: 1. clean the contacts between the camera and body (the gold pins and conact plates on the lens); 2. dismount and remount the lens and perhaps it is just not correctly making contact; 3. remove the battery and let set and then replace and try again (usually doesn't work); 4. make sure that the only thing between the lens and the body is nothing; 5. otherwise either the lens or the body is defective.

Good luck

Nikon D80 error

The CPU contacts on the lens can sometimes get dirty and they can be cleaned by gently rubbing them with the eraser end of a pencil.   Be very careful to not get any of the eraser rubbings into the lens.   Also, when handling a lens, don't touch these contacts, as the sweat from our hands is not good on the metal.
