TFT = Thin Film Transistor. It is an improved LCD screen

SPDIF - Sony Philips Digital Interface. This is a digital audio format that is either optical or coax.

SPDIF turns off the didital output.

SPDIF Raw = Signal without any modification. This is meant for a receiver that can decode the signal.
SPDIF PCM - PCM means Pulse Code Modulation. The signal in this mode is encapsulated and will work with just about every receiver with a SPDIF input.

Have bought a polaroid soundbar tb301 to work with my polarooid p43d300 tv what setting do i need to set tv to

Could not find a Polaroid TB301, so we'll have to guess.

Press the Menu button on the remote and use the right and left arrows to select AUDIO.
In the AUDIO Menu, use the up and down arrows to select SPDIF Type.
If the sound bar is connected to the TVs Digital Audio Out, (it plugs into the socket with the red light) select Dolby Digital.
If the sound bar is connected to the TVs R/L Audio Out, select PCM.

Bought the A99HR Nikkai DVD player and recently the sound does not work anymore. Picture and everything else is working alright.

I had the same problem when I switched over to a HDMI cable. It's the sound settings. I had to switch my audio setup in the settings menu to PCM for HDMI and also choose only SPDIF / RAW or PCM.

RX-V465 Yamaha Reciver we can get picture but no sound w/PS3

Check HDMI Sound settings:
Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV).
Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.

Hi, =)

Basically what you need is to connect the S/PDIF out from the soundcard\motherboard I/O ports to the 8500 graphics card S/PDIF in and HDMI should now carry both video and audio.

So you have to check the video card. On the top part you'll see a white plastic with 2 pins inside of it. This is the connector SPDIF input from the video card. So what you have to do is look up in your motherboard for a connector with 3 pins that says SPDIF OUT. Even though it looks with 3 pins ONLY 2 of them are needed. You will basically need ONLY a cable like this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...00&CatId=69

You can get it at a local pc technician shop for 2 bucks only.

Anyway what you do is connect one end of the cable to the two pins from the white connector from the video card and the other end of the cable to your motherboard on the first 2 pins of the SPIDF OUT connector. Now the way to know which ones are the first two, do it this way: The first two considering reading SPIDF OUT meaning that the first one is the one closest to the "S" letter of SPDIF OUT.

If it does not work trying connecting the cable differentely as you might be connecting in a reverse order (positive-negative). Don't worry about burning anything as it's only a sound cable, and it does not carry any power.

Once you do it, go to windows control panel and select SPDIF as your default sound playback.

And you're ready to enjoy sound and video thru HDMI now!

My marantz DV 9500 doesnt output digital signal for audio cd anymore but outputs audio for dvd, sacd, dvd audio. Does it need servicing

Make sure your playing componet like CD player have a digital output socket. Connect this to a digital port on the amp witk a single RCA or Optical cable if output available on CD. Make sure the digital assingment in amp is set for cd function and corresponding input(example cd plyer connected on dig 4 input on amp, press menu, setup, assignment, go to cd player, make sure setting on dig 4 or change input to dig 4, go to next component to memorise setting.and exit, see manual to assist you) if still no sound take dvd cable for instance that is working and put that in dig 4 port. if that works check in cd player that settings spdif/raw/pcm is correct one for yor digital output if still no sound soun pc board faulty.

I can hear cds and see video on my hp dvd 1040i multiformat dvd writer but I can not hear audio to the movie/dvds i have rented.

Sounds like you might have a setting that is incorrect for DVDs in the setup menu.

Grab your DVD player remote and press the SETUP button. Navigate to the audio menu. Make sure Spdif is turned off (unless you're using an optical cable for your sound), that the audio stream is set to PCM (standard for CDs) or RAW, and turn off any Dolby/Digital Dolby/Surround Sound/etc. Now play a disc.

There's also another way if your remote has an AUDIO button. While the DVD is playing, press the AUDIO button and you should see a small windo that pops up that will tell you what the audio is set to. Press the button and wait a couple of seconds between presses to see if the audio starts playing.

First of all, Linear PCM is the best option to choose. PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is a format for uncompressed raw audio data.

Some 5.1 sets have Dolby ProLogic II for example. The raw PCM output gets spread at your speakers dynamically. Meaning the decoder of your set interprets it the way it thinks is best. For example, if it gets a high frequency tone, it sends it to the center speakers as for human voice has a very high frequency. The center speaker is meant for dialogs.

But when you choose a compressed, encoded format such as Dolby or DTS the channel devidance is already mixed for you for optimal theatre experience.

When you choose DTS or Dolby in the menu of your Blu-ray Disc it will originally output a raw PCM audio stream. The decoder knows how to decode the DTS data out of it when you use the DTS audio track from the movie. The same goes for Dolby. Some movies can output pure PCM, but then most sets use ProLogic II to devide it over the speakers.
It's kinda hard to explain how it works, bottom line is.. there's nothing wrong.

I hope it makes sense to you and your question is answered.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.

Connecting to front inputs of a Toshiba tv

As a replacement for "Dolby Digital DT3 AV cable" can be used a " 3.5mm (mono) to RCA(or coaxal)" Cable.
Just make sure that DVD Player set for "SPDIF/RAW" or "SPDIF/PCM" output
