It's probably a color convergence issue. Televisions can be pretty expensive to repair. Once this convergence starts to go, there's no stopping it. I know just to have a repair guy come out to my house, it was $100. I suggestion calling a tv repair guy, or bring the TV in to Circuit City type places for a estimate.

It's a circuit board with amps, etc that control the color output and gun positioning. Alot of people with big screens, like myself, will have to be repair for these problems.

Usually any TV with a bow tie effect, blurred/duplicated picture with different colors is convergence issue.

The convergence is really for projections, it could be a few things.

1. You may need to degauss (might be able to borrow one from a repair guy??)

2. A bad CRT circuit which is allowing only the "blue" gun to work.

3. CRT board

There are 3 "guns" in television, red, green, and blue.

Televisions can be hard to diagnose without being there to test components.

Call a pro and just ask him over the phone what the problem could be. Then take that information and Google a how-to. If you are handy with a soldering iron, and know the fundamentals of electricity, you may be able to fix it without braking the bank.

Picture in blue hues

Not sure what is wrong but sounds like 1 or more of the colors are out. Many TVS are 3 colrs like red, blue and green that make up the picture. TVs like this have 3 color generators and they can go out individually so it is likely that is what happened. Probably not an easy fix as it might be the electronics or light (usually the light). Check your manual (or download it) and see if there are user replaceable color lights or take it to (or talk to) Best Buys repair to see if they can replace the light.

Picture is still sharp, but the colr red just disappeared from the picture. It all looks washed out. Any suggestions?

This set used an LED for the illumination source IIRC... a total loss of one color means the loss of one of the three LED's that drive the DMD module. In your case--the RED LED module --or it's driver--has failed. There is NO color wheel to deal with in this set.

Display color changed from green/ white now to Red and blue?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem is as you suspected, the green is missing. This is a common failure and is technically an easy/quick repair. Almost always, the culprit would be a cold solder or a faulty color drive transistor/IC. They would be located on the small squarish PCB (printed circuit board) at the very rear of the tube. Of course, worst case scenario would be a faulty CRT (picture tube), but that would be least likely.

Corrective measure would then be initially re-soldering above describe solder joints and/or replacing faulty transistor/IC.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

as a technician i dont feel the color wheel is a difficult repair. HOWEVER ..color wheel relacement means sometimes depending on model removal of light engine. which means you can get into alignment issues. then once the color wheel is replaced then it too has to be alligned.
