SOURCE: Fridge running but not staying cold

you have a defrost problem, if SxS ref. most likely bad defrost heaters. They are behind interior back wall. Sounds like you have a GE.

SOURCE: freezer not freezing food and fridge not staying cold enough

Check the compressor with a volt meter, if the compressor is getting proper voltage then check the relay. But this sounds like a problem with the compressor

SOURCE: Freezer is too cold, fridge isn't cold enough.

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: http://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat http://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck & thanks for using fixya! SOURCE: Fridge wont get cold

DEFROST HEATERS2_bing.gif IN THE FREEZER. IF THERE IS FROST ON THE BACK WALL INSIDE THE OF THE FREEZER SECTION. YOU THEN HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. REMOVE THAT PANEL AND DEFROST WITH HAIR DRYER. THIS FROST IS BLOCKING THE AIR FLOW TO THE REF. SIDE. AFTER THIS IT WILL WORK FOR 10-21 DAYS WITH OUT REPLACING A PART. THERE IS A BROWN AND ORANGE WIRE TO THE DEFROST SAFTY THERMOST. THE CONNECTOR ON THAT BROWN WIRE MAY HAVE FROZE APART. THE DEFROST SAFETY THERMOSTAT MAY HAVE FAILED. OR CONTROL BOARD MAY HAVE FAILED. BEHIND THE KICK PLATE IN A BAG ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF YOUR REF. CABINET IS A TECH SHEET ON HOW TO FORCE A DEFROST TO CHECK THE SYSTEM.

Have a GE Model #GSL22JFPHBS side-by-side refrigerator that the freezer is staying cold but the refrigerator part is not get cold.

its either the defrost heater or defrost thermostat or the defrost timer has gone bad and the evaporator is iced over,HINT: (you will see the inside rear panel in the freezer has frost on it) and the evaporator fan cannot blow cold air over the iced up coils in which case soon the freezer will start to seem warm too,if this isnt the case then its the damper vent door located between the freezer and fridge compartment that opens and closes to throttle cold air into the fridge from the freezer, sometimes they freeze shut from condensation or the door hinge breaks and it can jam shut, also if theres excessive water dripping into the fridge from the top it can be a plugged drain hole and water blocks cold air flow, also make sure the evaporator fan beneath the evaporator coil in the freezer is operating when the units running or cold air wont be pushed into the fridge either

My freezer works but my refrigerator wont stay cold...getting warm. it is 4 years old. what could be wrong?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

I have a Roper RT21LMXKQ00 Freezer wont freeze

The problem is a defrost problem. The freezer coil has frost on it and thus restricts the cold air from flowing. This affects the refrigerator as it gets its cold air from the freezer. The ice will not make if the temperature is above 12*F and this also is why ice cream is like mush.

Fridge wont stay cold in the bottom.

Your frost free is not defrosting properly. There should be no ice buildup in the freezer section. Frost in the freezer section stops air circulation to the refrigerator section.
