Failed components inside is the only answer without testing. Open it up and look for circuit board damage or blown capacitors. In reality, you need to take it to a service centre where they have the test equipment and knowledge.
Without a make and model, the only suggestion I have is bad belts. Some players can require a lot of disassembly to get the new belts on. If you go to Turn Table Needles, they have a nice feature where you can enter your make and model number to see what belts you will need.
If you mean that there is no electricity reaching it then a blown fuse in teh mains plug is the most likely.
If you mean that electricity is reaching the player but the turntable isn't going round then you probably need to replace the rubber drive belt - purchase online (try Amazon) searching by make and model number.
You will need to gain access to the underside of the turntable to change the belt - normally done by unscrewing teh base.
There is usually a cotter pin at the center of the platter around the spindle base. This can be removed with a screw driver using a twisting motion. There is a blades worth of space between the clip and the spindle base. Screw driver should be in vertical position. Sometimes the vinyl slip mat must be removed first. Watch that clip, cause it can go flyin. Once the clip is removed, the turntable should let go easily.
It would appear this is a belt drive turntable - here's a link to a site where you can order a replacement, although you may be able to find a cheaper one.
Look at websites that sell Dj equipment.......search for places that sell technics turntables for DJs......and make sure they also have belt driven models like stanton turntables......if they do, then they might have the belt that you need. if they don't then they can probably order it for you or know where you can get the belt from!
if you wind up getting a new turntable, go with a direct drive model....they don;t have that problem as there are no belts!
which model you have? 242? Philips truntables can be easily repaired only if you know where to take them for repairs. I am also living in bangalore.. and I am a vinyl, retro turntable collecter. just send me you phone # at [email protected]. I will be glad to guide you on this... cheers
