Question about Memorex iListen Mi1006 (Silver) Remote Control for Apple iPod

2 Answers

It won't turn on.

My Memorex iListen worked perfectly fine before the power went out in my house for a couple of hours.  I tried turning it on when I got the power back and it simply won't turn on. I have tried resetting the power strip it was plugged into but nothing works.  What is strange though is the green light on the power adaptor works, it's just the main system that won't turn on. Please help! thanks.

We had the same problem. Our power went out during TS Fay here in Florida, and when it returned, the iListen would not turn on. It occasionally flashes on for a second when the power button is held down, but it will not power up. This is a bummer as we have not had this long.

Our green light on the power adapter seems to flash rather than stay consistenly green. I don't know if that will be helpful.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

I have the same problem with my unit after the power went out the light on the power supply blinks while pluged to the unit but once unpluged it stays steady. I measured the voltage from the power supply and it was a steady 12.56 dcv, now my problem is how to get in the unit with out breaking it all apart I have grown atached to it I think inside the unit their is a fuse by the incomming power plug that can be changed out but if anyone has found out how to open it with harm please do tell.

Yep, mine packed it in for apparently no reason about 6 months after purchase...it will intermittently light up when you press power, but nothing happens thereafter...

Same problem here.  My husband is doing the power button thing.  I will be totally amazed if it actually works.

SOLUTION: After a year and half of keeping this broken dock around and researching online to no avail, I have finally "fixed" my Memorex iListen iPod dockIt won't turn on. - 2_bing.gif.
*Quick answer is that I used an old ac adaptor from a modem I no longer used but for more details, read below.
The first issue was figuring out what to search for. My iListen doesn't clearly note it's name on the unit. All I could find on it was "Memorex" so for the purpose of those Googling for a solution, I used generic search terms like "Memorex white ipod2_bing.gif dock" plus "won't power on," "fix," "repair," and "broken." I hope including those keywords in this solution's text helps people arrive at this page as a result.
To clarify the symptoms my unit presented: 1) The power supply's green light was lit but did appear to blink, or rather it was constantly lit but would fade slightly from bright to medium before repeating in approximately two second intervals. 2) The unit would not seem to turn on; however, pressing the power button with an ipod plugged in would result in the unit momentarily turning on. It varied in length but usually only "flashed" on.
Given these circumstances, my guess was that a "blown fuse" was the cause. Since I saw no way to open up the power block or the main dock unit (not quite sure what I was gonna do once in there except look for a fuse), I decided to rummage thru some old power adapters I had lying around in an old shoe box. I found one from an old modem that matched the symbols on the original "broken" adapter. (as i found later, the symbol represents a positive polarity, more info here:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AC_adaptor_polarity.png)
Once I plugged in the modem adaptor to the dock, it powered right up.
I know this was a long, LONG way around sharing a singular solution, but seeing how long it took to finally discover it (albeit an incredibly simple one), I wanted to make sure others found it and knew what circumstances specifically applied to my case.

Hi Everyone,

I had the same problem with mine. For no apparent reason 4 months after we purchased it, it would not turn on. I called memorex, and get this.....THEY HELPED ME!!

I cannot begin to tell you how blown away I am. I do have a possible solution, but I can not confirm it, and shortly you will understand.

I actually talked to someone. I still can't believe it. This is what he told me to do;

Push down and hold the power button for 2 minutes. Nothing will happen, and that is normal. While you are continuing to hold down the power button unplug the power cord from the wall. Keep holding the power button for 2 more minutes. Now, let go of the power button and wait 1 1/2 hours. Then plug it back in and see if it works. I still have an hour left, and that is why I do not know if it will work.

Now get this, he told me to call him back if it didn't help. Did you read that?? He said call me back and we will keep trying!! I still can't believe that I actually talked to someone, and he actually is HELPING me!!!

If this fix does not work for you call 877-363-6673 and see what the next step is.

I hope this works for all of us. Memorex has now been lifted to the highest makrs in my book. I have NEVER called another company and recieved help without a hassle or paying for the help.

Have a great day!!!!

Steve

Had the same problem. Called Memorex, they have discontinued making the unit and the plug. Stupid.
Went to Radio Shack. They sell an adapter, part number 273-333. It is an Enercell AC-to DC Power Adapter for 3/5/6/6.5/7/7.5VDC. Adjustable for the volts you need. The Mi2290 takes 5 volts. It comes with 3 interchangeable tips. The orange one fits the unit.
Don't be surprised, though. It was almost $30. Half the price I paid for the speaker. Cheaper than buying a new one, I guess. Hope this helps.

The unit suddenly stopped working; contact is plugged in but on-button does not work. No lights on, it does not seem the unit has power.

I faced a similar problem with Mine a couple of days ago.
Try these below
1. Keep the unit plugged to the wall socket (and charge). Green light (indicating charging) may not glow. It doesnt matter. Keep it on for a few hours.
2. Then try to turn on the unit.
3. If it still doesnt turn on, fold the unit and keep it aside for a few mins (say 10 mins).
4. Open it and then try to turn it on.

Mine worked with step 4.

See if this helps.
regards,
Lakshmi

Exactly the same problem

didn't work for me either, but I used an old modem adaptor that fit and it powered right up. if you got any old electronics laying around, rummage thru them and hopefully you find one that works, otherwise you may be able to find a universal or old one online or at a local store for relatively cheap.

The only thing i can think of is the amount of power surging into the speakers is too great and they are cutting of to avoid blowing out. I have a similar issue with my surround sound if i turn it up too loud.
