Try removing and resetting the memory sticks some times they get corrosion or just lose connection

Sony PCV RZ44G irresponsive

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.Just because you see lights around the power button does not mean that the Power Supply is ok. I've seen many times when the Power Supply makes the light around the power button come on and makes the light on the motherboard come on, but it does not have enough power to make the Fan inside the power supply come on or anything else.

Sony PCV-7762 Service manual

First of all, the Sony Vaio desktop case is like trying to open Fort Knox. It is quite well built, but hardly gives any clues about how to open it to work on it inside. Here's a link that specifically addresses this situation:

Drivers installed right, but no digtial audio {sony pcv 7762} could it be the motherboard.

Could it be the motherboard?

Could it be that it is the wrong drivers?
Or the right drivers, and installation did not actually occur?

If it is the motherboard's integrated audio chipset is bad, simply obtain, and use a sound card in the appropriate expansion slot on the motherboard.
An open PCI slot. (White in color)

[NOTE* That is PCI-Express x1.
Not PCI-Express x16 slot. This slot is reserved for a graphics card.

According to Sony eSupport the PCV 7762 model is actually the PCV-RX850

1) Did you install this audio driver?

Yamaha YMF753 Audio Driver Utility?
(Has the audio driver in it)

2) You downloaded the file to your computer (My Documents, or Downloads, perhaps?), and then double-clicked on the file name - YA31520801JG.EXE, then followed the simple instructions of the Installation Wizard?

[Simply, Next, Next, and Finish]

3) You then restarted the computer?

4) Are you sure the audio is turned on, and not muted? (Speaker icon in system tray, or go to Control Panel)

5) Sound system is plugged in correctly to the back of the computer? (Motherboard)

6) Sound system has power to it if required?

7) Still using the Windows XP O/S that came with the computer?

One example of a PCI soundcard,

Problem with Sony Vaio pcv-rx860 (screen goes black at startup)

I would suggest first to try to take one stick of memory out and try to boot up the pc. Sometimes, one or both of the memory sticks can go bad or the memory slot on the motherboard itself can go bad. If that is not the case I would then remove all of the usb connected to the computer and last i would test the power supply.
