First off what's the brand name and model number of the machine,if it's a G.E. i'd go right for the computer board,if the freezer is warm most likely it's a compreesor problem or the compressor isn't running from maybe a bad board or a timer or a freon leak in the system or a bad compressor, you have to let me know if the compressor is running,if it is you could have a freon leak, you can remove the freezer inside back wall, look at the evap coil,if there's just ice on the top of the coil and not an even frost pattern covering the whole coil you deffinetly have a leak in the system. if it isn't running you could also have a bad start device on the compressor but like i said i need the model number and a little more info and i can help you out.

Not much to a freezer. I would first check to see if the freezer was possibly stuck in defrost mode. I would find the timer and advance it manually to see if the freezer kicks back on.
what are the first steps - themobilian_2136.jpg
If the timer turns out to be ok I move onto the next step which
is to check the compressor relay.
themobilian_2137.jpg
I feel the compressor; if it is too hot to touch the relay is fried together, if it is cold to the touch the relay has fallen apart. If the compressor and timer are ok I next check the cold control. If it is open (no continuity) then it is bad. If all of that is good then I look for defrost prblems. If the heater or terminator goes bye bye then ice will form and block the fan that blows the air into the fresh food compartment.

The refrigerator side is not working, but the freezer is on my side-by-side

http://www.applianceblog.com/manuals/16025628.pdf

Here is a manual with decent infomaiton and troubleshooting tips. Since I can't walk you through each step of the troubleshooting process and see the results on the meter, I hope this will help you some.

Are you getting an ice build up behind the panel in the freezer compartment? If you are then check out the defrost heater, defroster thermostat and the defrost timer.

Since the cooling unit is on the freezer side, it moves the cold air to the refrigerator side with a fan and cooling tubes. If the tubes get blocked or the fan stops working then the refrigerator side will not cool down.

Please feel free to ask anything you don't understant and I will do my best to answer you.

The fridge is all working ok the freezer is all working ok but the ice maker is not working i have removed the tube that goes to the water part at the back and blew down it an it is not blocked

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

First off check the freezer door switch for operation. Depress the plunger and make sure the light goes off when the door switch plunger is depressed. Ligt stays on = bad door switch / no ice production as the door switch provides power to the ice-maker when the door is closed.

Here is a link to the steps on how to troubleshoot an ice-maker.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

Let me just add that many ice-maker related problems are due to the freezer temp rising above 16 deg F. The freezer starts warming up due to ice build up on the evaporator coils and then the internal air-flow is blocked by the ice build up causing the temps to rise. Look closely at the back of the unit for any signs of ice build up.
If you see ice build up......
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove the freezer contents
3. Place a fan directing air into the freezer for just over 2 hours. (Water mess!)
4. Clean up the excess water and restart the unit. (Add freezer content)
5. After 8 - 10 hours check for ice production.

If after doing the above you have ice production then most likely you have an automatic defrosting problem.

If it still does not make ice, the steps in the link above will isolate what has failed in the ice-maker.

Before testing the ice-maker using the steps in the link.. I recommend you peform a manual defrost with a fan. If 8 - 10 hours after the manual defrrost you do not have ice production,, use the link and troubleshoot the ice maker.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How to troubleshoot walk-in freezer & chillers

Good day,
The first step is to check to see if the fan motors in the evaporator cooling assembly are blowing.
The second step requires the use of compound gauge set. You will need to determine what type of refrigerant the unit runs on and what the high and low pressure readings are when the unit is on and running.
