there are several sets of drivers that install when you do this (all part of the one printer driver). the drivers that print are different drivers from the ones that scan. what's happening is that it sounds like your driver is only partially installed, probably due to some incompatibility between the driver version and vista. you could also try windows update through vista, and it will check to see updated drivers for your specific printer....
Make sure your HP 6100 is connected to the computer & power for the printer is connected. Power on the printer. Click on the link; Automatically check to see if you have the latest software and drivers Follow the on screen instructions. You'll need to allow HP to check your system. HP will scan your system & download & install the most up to date software for your HP printer automatically. Good luck debprince45! Run into trouble, just post here. Thank you for using fixya. try just connecting the printer to the laptop without the cd first. Vista has lots and lots of drivers to install this printer. It will pick it up once you have connected it to the laptop and then turned the printer on. The Cd was probably not made for vista.
Yes it is the right disk, Because 4200 is the series of printers which HP has (i.e 4210, 4210V, 4210XI) all comes under the same 4200 series, so do not worry it is the same printer driver. Except make sure it is for the right operating system like Windows2000, WindowsXP or WindowsVista
