Chainsaw chain keeps running

This is a carb adjustment issue and needs to be rectified before using it again, the L jet on the carb is set too lean, if you cannot correct yourself i would suggest taking it to the local chainsaw shop.

Stihl saw runs but won't idle.

The paper pumps get stiff and do not pump fuel very well. It's the new Ethanol gas that is the Carb Killers. You need a rebuild kit not just disassemble and clean.
You have IDLE ADJUST Low Speed adjust and High speed adjust. Low and High speed adjust have nothing to do with Idle.

Conected to the rubber induction boot is the impulse hose, it is a short curled pipe, make sure this has not split and is conected to the two nipples on the carb flange.

Bought a new husky chainsaw a 455 rancher. was told i had to break it in on small logs & not run it very long at first. is this true

The factory usually recommends 2-3 tanks of fuel going easy on the saw and not running at full throttle.......but I have never done this on any of my saws and I don;t know anyone who has and my saws are all still running great.

I have a series 51 husky saw. it starts and runs normally until it gets up to operating temps. then it stalls out and either refuses to restart or just won't restart until it cools down again....

sounds like air fuel mixture screws are out of adjustment..start with the on marked (L)..this is the low speed(idle) adjustment...turn it in all the way just until it stops..but be gentle..then you wnat to turn it out 1 1/2 turns as a starting point..start the engine and adjust it until you get a smooth idle...next, with the saw running, pull the trigger and you should have a smooth response from slow to fast...you can adjust the (H) screw until you get good high speed operation...if these adjustments don't fix the problem thenm yoou may need to have the carb rebuilt( a carb kit is usually only 15-30 dollars)

Carb adujustment on a huskavarna 61

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Be sure to have fresh fuel mix in the tank (50:1 ratio) and be sure to shake the container thoroughly just before adding fuel to the tank to prevent oil starvation. Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly), then turn each out CCW 1-1/2 turns. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on and adjust H jet needle CW until the engine starts to speed up. Proper adjustment is when the engine will 4-stroke unloaded, but will 2-stroke immediately when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L jet needle CW for better idle, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust the idle speed screw so that the engine continues to run, but the chain doesn't try to move. Hope this helps!

Chain saw carburator settings for husqvarna 61

Turn both screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting and the engine should start and run. Allow the engine to warm up, then pull the throttle full on. Turn the H jet screw CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-strokes. Proper adjustment occurs when the engine is 4-stroking, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This gives best power and lowest heat. Release the throttle and adjust L jet CW until the engine idles fairly well, but will allow the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

I did a quick search and saw nothing for a 61 carb but it does not mean it is not there. Someone at Arborists has rebuilt your carb. The hard part will be digging them out then dredging up the right memories. Good Luck. HTH Lou
