I have inserted a charged battery but the camera will not turn on. I cleaned the battery terminal with a cotton swab, as recommended in the manual, but it will still not turn on.

This is the first time that this occurs? Is the battery new, how time is working with this battery? Are you try with another battery?

Also, keep in mind turn off the LCD screen to save power. If nothing comes on at all, then try looking for a reset button. It's usually a very small button you have to press with a paperclip or something like that. Look near the bottom of the camera, or under a cover, if there are any on the camera. I would take the memory card out of the camera before you press the reset button, just to be sure it doesn't delete the pictures.

If the camera still does not power on, contact Canon support for servicing and repair.
Hope helps.

NIkon cool pix 5400 will not turn on. Battery is fully charged.

A couple of possibilities. The battery is bad and not accepting a charge. Replace the battery. The battery terminals are dirty. Using cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol, clean then fully dry the metal contacts on the battery and inside the battery compartment. Before turning it back on, be sure everything is fully dry.

D10 wont turn on

The manual in this case says:
Confirm the battery is properly inserted. (Some people manage to put in the battery, the wrong way around) Please check.
Confirm the memory card/battery cover is securely closed.
And if the battery terminals are dirty, battery performance will decrease. Clear the terminals with a cotton swab and reinsert the battery several times.
Also in low temperatures, the battery won't deliver enough power.
If you want to be sure the battery is still good enough, use a multimeter to check the voltage. The measured voltage should be a little above the voltage printed on the battery. In your case above 3,7 Volt. If it is just 3,7 or lower, you can be sure the batty has had its best days and won't be delivering enough power (current) to let the camera work correct. in that case try another battery.

Confirm that the battery is charged
Confirm that the battery is inserted facing the correct way
Confirm that the memory card/battery cover is fully closed
Dirty battery terminals reduce battery performance. Try cleaning the terminals with a cotton swab and reinserting the battery a few times.
Check if there is no debris or anything else in the battery compartment that can prevent correct contact between the battery terminals and the connection points in the camera.
Always charge NiMH batteries before using them for the first time, or if they have not been used for a long period. 3 months can be very long for NiMH batteries.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries should not be used.

Canon Powershot A3400 won't turn on

Hi Jessie,

I looked at the troubleshooting section of the Canon Powershot A3400 Is manual and it suggested the following:

  • Confirm that your are using the correct type of battery, and that there is sufficient charge (p. 163). Sounds like you did this.
  • Confirm that the battery is inserted facing the correct way (p.17)
  • Confirm that the memory card/battery cover is fully closed (p.18)
  • Dirty battery terminals reduce battery performance. Try cleaning the terminals with a cotton swab and reinserting the battery a few times.
The manual also said that the batteries can deplete quickly in low temperatures. "Try warming the batteries a little by putting them in your pocket, for example, ensuring that the terminals do not touch any metal objects."

You can find the manual online here: http://aggregate.org/CACS/psa4000is-a3400is-a2400is-a2300-a1300-a810-cug-c-en.pdf

I also uploaded the manual to FixYa's Canon Powershot A3400 Is Product Page:http://www.fixya.com/support/p2861926-canon_powershot_a3400_16_megapixel_16_mp

Lastly, you can also check out Canon's Service & Support page for the camera: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a3400_is#ServiceAndSupport

Best of luck!

HI GOOD DAY I CANT TURN ON MY CAMERA IT DOESNT WORK EVAN WITH NEW BATERY THANKS

Check to make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
Clean the battery terminals with a dry cotton swab that has a fine and soft tip, and then re-insert the batteries. If the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is not securely closed, the power of the camera may not turn on.Close the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] securely, and then turn the power on.
If your camera still does not work even after you have performed the above procedures, your camera may be malfunctioning. Please have the camera serviced in this case.

The terminals can have an invisible coating on them. Clean them with a pencil eraser and then with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Hey slerm,
I would try cleaning the battery terminals inside the camera with some alcohol and cotton swabs before I went out and invested money into a new battery. The manufacturer suggests you make sure the battery is inserted correctly with the arrow pointed towards the back of the camera. If neither one of these options work for you by all means try a new battery.

Sincerely,
Allan
