Hello, Welcome to FixYa. I suspect the rear bearing or spider gear is toast, thus the reason the shock absorbers where broke in the first place. Very common for these machines unfortunately. It is a very involved repair either way but if you think you're up to it ( plus, is it worth it ? Parts are in the range of $400-$500 ) I can help in whatever manner possible with those frigidaire washers. I'll watch for your reply. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)

My frididaire front load washer is making a loud knocking sound as it goes through the cycle. Also the metal "basket" in which the clothing is places seems to be "off its track" and loose. i can move it...

It sounds like the shocks for the drum are broken. The shocks absorb the wobbling of the drum due to unbalanced loads, etc. Remove the lower front panel (with machine unplugged) and look towards the back on each side and see if you see broken or hanging shocks. The panel has 2 screws I think and should come right off.
Also, if you can open the door and lifting up on the drum inside the machine and moving it around and hear a clunking sound, the drum bearings may be bad. Give that a try and see what you find.

LOUD noise when in spin cycle. Appears to be in drum assembly.

The loud noise is because the shock absorbers that hold the tub are broken. This allows the tub to flop al over the place.
You can get new ones easily by doing a search for"appliance parts" then enter your model number and select the part from the menu.
Check a couple of different sites as it seems that no one site always has the best price.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

The washer drum is hitting in the spin cycle.

When you take off the back panel, check to see if both shock absorbers are intact. We were having some problems with our (ATF6000E) Frigidaire front-loader recently too. I noticed that one of the shock absorbers was broken, for about $25 I got a replacement (two of them, I couldn't find just one). It took about 15 minutes to replace. No problems. With mine, though, I think because the drum was moving around, it dislodged some wires which made it stop filling up with water after a few seconds. I did a test and it said E5E. I would check to replace your shock absorbers before doing any more laundry so your machine will still work and not have other problems like mine.

It appears that my front loader drum is loose and hanging. Make a ridiculously loud noise.

Your shock absorbers are problably broken and need to be replaced. Take off the bottom inspection panel by removing the 2 screws on the bottom of the panel and pull the piece down and out. Then take a look inside the machine in the bottom middle on both sides. There should be a shock absorber on each side and these are plastic. Check to see if they are broken at either end and if they are, go to your local appliance repair shop and buy/order a new pair. The new ones are slightly upgraded by making the body out of metal and the rest out of plastic. Instalation instructions come in the package as well as a pair of new absorbers. Hope this helps.

Loud noise on our washer, needs to open it

Plug off the wall, open up behind - some shock-absorber (damper) could be damaged; check for loose or broken springs supporting drum. Lastly if the drum thru the front (front loader?) glass door is totally mis-aligned the problem could be your spider arm, which is not too easy.

Check the shocks on the bottom of the drum. I had the same problem and had to replace the shocks because they were broken in half.
