Once the setting for progressive scan output is entered, an image will only be visible on a progressive scan compatible TV or monitor.

If you set Progressive Scan to On in error, you must reset the unit.

1) Remove any disc from the unit and close the disc tray. See that 'dISC' is displayed on the display window.

2) Press STOP (on front of unit) and hold it for more than five seconds before releasing it (10 seconds is better).

The video output should be restored to the standard default setting (interlace) and a picture will once again be visible on a conventional analogue TV or monitor.

Hopefully that solves your problem.

What does progressive scan mean?

Progressive Scan produces higher video quality than Interlaced Scan. If your TV is progressive scan compatible - and nearly all HDTV and DTV sets are - then a progressive scan DVD / Blu-Ray player / Home Theater System can give you a significant increase in perceived vertical resolution and a more detailed and film-like picture.

You can always switch to Interlace Scan mode (and vice versa) via the on-screen menus at any time if you prefer.

In order to use progressive scan you must have a progressive scan compatible tv. Check your users manual to find out if its compatible. If it is it should give instructions to turn on the progressive scan option for tv.

We see a yellow anouncement that says PSCAN and it splits the image

Hello
PSCAN; means Progressive Scan. To get the splitted picture together you have to change the scan system of your tV to progressive scan. Now it runs on Interlace Scan. If your TV has Progressive Scan function; refer to its user manual; set it to progressive scan. An other way is to change the scan system with DVD. Try either. OK.

Does the JVC xv s40 have progressive scan?

Sorry but this DVD does not have progressive scan. Before buying another DVD player with progressive scan ensure the tv you have can receive progressive scan signals. If not it doesn't matter if the dvd has progressive scan or not. Hope this helps.
