Question about Canon DR-9080C Path-Through Scanner

DR-9080C BackgrounfColour Dropping Out

Occasionally while scanning in colour to uncompressef TIF format, the background colour partially drops out to give a sort of banding effect. I have cleaned the shading plates, lens, sensors. I've even tried putting a plain white piece of paper through to see if that re-sets the white balance. My only thought now is that the actual scanning element might be on its way out. But when it does happen, i have tried swapping it with an alternate 9080C and the same efffect is still there. I have also tried 3 different versions of the captureperfect software and the PC it is running on is of pretty good spec (dual core, 2 gig ram). Any ideas???

Color scanning is a big technology. There are concepts like Hue and intensity, refer to wikipedia for explanation. There is something called source light (your monitor for example) and reflected light (your picture that is being scanned). After scanning properly, say you view on a monitor where the Brightness & Contrast are not proper, you will see the image poorly! To test the scanning scan absolute white and check the output. It should read the values 255,255,255 for RGB (Red, Green & Blue). If the values are 255,255,255 but still the image does not appear white on the monitor, it is monitor setting that is wrong. If the output is not 255,255,255 then CANON service personnel only can help. Any good imaging software will display the RGB values.

CANON uses LED light source and they have fairly long life as compare to scanner bulbs. It is okay if you use a powerful system, but it has limited role as the scanner does all the jobs and it only sends the data to the Comp. May further processing is better withe high performance CPU and large RAM.

There is an option to set the brightness/contrast in the first page of Capturperfect. Select automatic if you cannot manually set it.

P002

The error reported should be 'P02' and not 'P002' This means that the length of the paper is more than the size selected. For example if you scan legal sheet after selecting A4, you will get this error. Select Autosize (with CapturPerfect ver 3) or select 'Scanner Maximum' and remove black background. You can also select a specific size with 9080C.

When we try to save the scanned documents it takes long time? any idea how to slove this issue please...thanks

The file size depends upon B&W or Color, the Format and the System performance. If you are scanning in color, try JPG format as it is lesser in size. TIF file will be huge as compared to JPG, though there is a drop with JPG, it is easily manageable. If B&W go for TIFF compressed instead of uncompressed TIFF.
Check if you have enough disk space in your computer. Do a defrag on you hard disk.

Scanner Canon DR-9080C recently started scanning at a slower speed. All setting look to be the same compared to another unit. Any thoughts?

Do you have enough disk space? Try disk Defrag and create more space. Also check the Format you are saving, is it TIFF compressed or uncompressed? The uncompressed file size is really huge.

How to get rid of the 4 zero's at the end of the naming convention?

The scanner allows you to scan in batches and you can select a convenient name for a batch. If you start the first batch as 'A', then the first image will be 'A001.tif' , second as 'A002.tif' etc. If the next batch is 'B', then it will be, B001.tif, B002.tif etc.

How do you get rid of the 4 digits that is added by default to the file name?

If you are in the 'batch' mode, the software adds this. If you select one page scanning, you have the chioce to select the file name you want. Actually after scanning, u need to save it in the neame U want.

With better processors and large storage, higher color depth is the order of the day; however if you dont want higher color depth, you can convert the images after scanning. Ofcourse it requires an addl effort.
