Well, per chance if you put the timer on a cyc and then do not push start after about 5 min's, unplug the unit disassemble it and feel the motor is it warm if so it sound like your time is failing and sending minor voltage and causing feedback issues with it.

If your glides are gone the drum is pinched causing the motor to bog down>
Reach inside the dryer and move the drum. It should be easy to spin. If not then yall need to inspect for worn parts. You have to fix what made the belt break. I have a service manual and more here.

Dryer hums but will not start

bad motor,if it does start and runs then shuts down and you can't restart it until it cools down you have a bad motor,or open the door and see if you can spin the drum,i found a dryer that the belt cut through the pastic belt pulley and the motor couldn't turn, also something could be stuck inthe blower wheel but if you can spin the drum then it's the motor.the noise you heard is either a bad roller, the belt pulley or the motor bearing.next time send the model number and i can look up you dryer to see what parts are in it.hope this helps.

Indesit G74V dryer won't spin

Some dryers have a belt tension idler and switch combination that works to keep the belt under tension and shuts down the dryer if the belt breaks or falls off.

Maytag neptune dryer makes loud humming noises but does not spin

motor, or belt. if it is the belt then you should be able to spin the drum freely, if not then more then likely the motor is bad, here is a website that can help you, Tim:

Whirlpool dyer heat but will not spin

if it is making a humming noise, the belt is either broken or has come off the motor or idler - if it is not humming, the motor might be bad - motor expensive, belt not, but it is quite entailed to replace one if you have never done it

I can here the motor try to run but it will not spin. I was using the dryer and when I removed one load and replaced it with a new load all it does is make a hum. The dryer is only 2 1/2 years old.

dryer belt is either broken, or came off of the motor pulley, check varify and replace if needed. If belt is ok, you may have an article of clothing stuck in the blower wheel, remove as needed.

Dryer motor

if the motor buzzes when you push start then it is a bad motor.as long as the drum turns freely by hand.

High pitched noise

HI Step 1: Remove the back access panel. Then reach behind the drum, motor pulley, and idler arm pulley. If these areas are clogged with dirt and lint, undue strain on the motor may be causing the humming noise. Worn or broken belts can also cause a humming noise. Check the belts for wear and damage. If the belts look all right, you may be able to stop the noise by spraying them with fan belt dressing, available at automotive and hardware stores and home centers.

Step 2: Turn the dryer on. The noise you hear may be the whirl of the spinning drum, not the motor. Some noise is normal.

Step 3: Force a little 20-weight nondetergent motor oil (not all-purpose oil) around the ends of the motor shaft. This lubrication may stop the humming noise. If this doesn't solve the problem, remove the motor and take it to a professional service person.

The centrifugal switch on the dryer motor may be located on top of the motor. Humming, no motor power, and no heat can be caused by a faulty centrifugal switch. If the switch is externally mounted, check the terminals of the switch to make sure they are tight and not burned. If you spot trouble, remove the switch and take it to a professional service person for testing. A faulty switch will probably have to be replaced. Some centrifugal switches are located inside the motor housing; you won't be able to remove the switch in this case. Remove the entire motor and take it to a professional for repairs.

Motor malfunctions usually call for service by a professional. There are three main causes of motor failure: lack of lubrication, a defective motor switch, or worn or frozen bearings. A humming sound can be related to a burned-out motor or a defective switch. Check these trouble spots before you call a professional service person or take the motor to a repair shop. Here's how to check a dryer motor:
Step 1: Remove the back access panel.
If the motor hums, but won't run the pulley on the end of the motor shaft, try turning the pulley by hand.Caution: Before turning the pulley, make sure the power to the dryer is turned off.
