Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I bought a Sunbeam electric blanket in december and only used it for about 3 months until it stopped working. i have done nothing that would cause this to occur and after searching online found that this is a VERY common problem with this particular brand of blanket. Is there anyway to fix this?

The only thing you can do, other than pull all the wire out to test it, is check the temperature control. If you have another you know works or can borrow one to test the blanket, that's the easiest. Else, you will need to use a "Glow Stick". A Glow Stick is an electrical tester that does not require physical contact with a bear conductor to detect voltage. They are available at Hard Ware stores, Menard's, Home Depot, etc. Plug the blanket controller into the wall outlet and touch the 2 wires near the thermostat. If it glows, the cord is good and the outlet has power. Now test the wires coming out of the thermostat that go to the blanket. Turn the thermostat way up and down and see if the light glows. If no, the thermostat is bad. If it glows, indicating power has made it through the thermostat, continue to test along those wires to the blanket. If you have power at the plug on the blanket, continue onto the blanket along the wires that provide the heat. The light will continue to glow on-till you get to the break in the line. When the light goes out, that's the break point. If you do find a break in the blanket and would like me to walk through the repair, I will be happy to. The Glow Stick is a good investment for safely testing anything electrical without the risk of being shocked. Please rate this for me. I am new to the site and need to improve on writing what I am thinking. Let me know how it goes for you, OK?

There is a problem with the blanket. Since it started doing this just after washing (as per instructions), I suspect that somehow - running it thru the washer caused the problem.

Since it is an electrical device, if allowing to air dry thoroughly doesn't let it work as expected, you should stop powering it - and use it only as a non-powered blanket or discard and replace.

Hi. You can locate a Sunbeam Service Centre via http://www.sunbeam.com.au/Pages/Support/Repairers.aspx

You're looking at $64.00 recommended retail.

BTW have you checked that it's not the blanket? Swap the controls over, if the problem follows the control it's the control. If the problem stays on the same side of the blanket, it's the blanket.

Also note Sunbeam has a 3 year warranty on electric blankets. If Date Of Purchase is less than 3 years ago call 1800025059 option 1 to speak to their Customer Service,

My new blanket works great. Then I changed my sheets and would get the F2 problem. Very consistent after 5 tries with F2 blinking by unplugging at wall outlet and comes on with F2 blinking. Let it rest a night and still the same.

Then I unplug it at the blanket. Hmm, notice a pin was lower than the others. PUSH BACK IN FIRM and tried again. Perfect.
