Question about Lenovo G560 - 15.6 - 500GB - Black - 067998U Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have Lenovo G560 -15.6 - 300 GB preloaded with Win 7. As I was working in an Island (Maldives) I had no internet connection for any update including Win 7 update. My C Drive was 270 GB and D drive 30 GB (That is how it was partitioned) C Drive had about 170 GB of Data (video and movies) and the OS. When I returned after one year, I connected it to the net for update. The process was going on for some time and I stopped it and shut down. Later when I restarted, I found all that data of 170 GB in C Drive is missing and the C Drive volume is also reduced by 170 GB. I applied the one key restoration by which all the lost data was recovered yet the 170 GB space was lost when I checked the volume graph of C drive. As Win 7 was not user-friendly as XP, I thought of loading XP as OS and as such I formatted the C Drive by booting from XP-CD considering that it would format the entire 270 GB. of C Drive. When loading was complete, I noticed that the C Drive showed only 100 GB and lost 170 GB. The XP OS was functioning as usual except for the lost 170 GB of space within the entire C Drive. This is what the problem I am facing to rectify. Can anyone kindly suggest a software or technique to recover the entire volume of 300 GB as raw so that I can do partition and format afresh. I don't want to recover any data, partion etc for that matter but I want it in a raw state of 300 GB, its full capacity (as you buy a new HDD from dealer). \r\nThe Shop expert from whom I bought this laptop argues that if I change the OS to XP, it cannot be updated with SP 3 as Lenovo G 560 is designed exclusive to opearate with Win 7. Is it true? Also he states that the built in FAX modem is combatable only to Win 7's driver and cannot be configured to XP. Is this true. Thank you very much for your help and guidance. Regards, V.H. Why won't my lenovo z580 download updated drivers automaticaly?

The lenovo automatic updates only work if you did not uninstall the Thinkvantage tools that came preloaded. If you did remove them, then you need to go to the Lenovo website to download and reinstall the Lenovo software.

Hi My Lenovo G560 is behaving strangely offlate. The LAN always shows disconnected. This happens with internet at my place as well as my friends place. And when I took the laptop to Lenova service center...

That is odd.

First thing I'd do is try another ethernet cable. Then I'd try connecting to somewhere other than your house - that will tell you if it's your laptop or your home.

I have had windows update kill my wired connection after a driver update. Obvious things to check - make sure your LAN connection is set to enabled and to dhcp.

It could be that your MAC address has been blocked by your ISP, but if wireless works and your friends, not likely.

at a command prompt, and connected only via wired, type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and if any errors.

You said NEW computer with Win 7? That is hardly new, unless you mean the computer is NEW to YOU. Obviously Win 10 is far better, with current drivers and better security. Nevertheless, older operating systems need Updated Drivers for current hardware. Go to the Device Drivers and review all hardware listed. Open each one individually and Update Drivers. When finished, you should have current driver function and all devices should operate very well. I still think you should up date to Win 10.
