You drained the fuel but sounds like you did not run fuel out of carb. the carb is probably just clogged either take off carb and clean thoroughly or just try to take off the screw on the float bowl and clean it there are little holes on it that are most likely plugged up. Good Luck...

Why doesn't it start?

Try spraying carb cleaner inside the carburetor. Left over gas will clog the tiny ports inside the carburetor. Next time either add stabilizer in your gas tank or run it dry until next season. Good luck!

After it cranks and runs when you give it gas it dies

sounds like bad gas or carburetor issue. drain all gas out and put in fresh. if it has a bowl on the bottom of the carburetor take it off and see if there is water or dirt in there. if it looks really bad you may have to take the carburetor of and clean it. this should make it run like new.

This sounds like the float is sticking in the carb causing it to flood . You need to take the carb off and clean it and put a kit in adjusting the float per the instructions

Have a sears craftsman 6.0 rear tine tiller.

Hi little,

The 7.0 hp version does the same thing.

I found that it was caused by the transmission not being fully engaged to a particular setting. when it tries to engage the tines in both forward and reverse, the engine stalls immediately.

After taking to neutral and back a few dozen times I got a 'feel' for it. Has happened in over a year.

Try it. It did take patience.

Best regards

Yard Machine rear tine 6hp tiller that wont start.

Ok, what's happening, is your carburetor metering hole is plugged. When you place your thumb over the carb, it draws fuel through the primer circuit to feed the engine instead. What you need to do, is clamp off the fuel line, take the nut off the bottom of the carburetor bowl, and clean that nut. Look closely at it; there is a hole that goes down the center of it, and a hole that goes through it side to side towards the bottom. These make a "T" shape inside the nut. You need to make sure that these are completely clear and clean. The one at the bottom is very small, and plugs easily. You usually need a small piece of wire to clean it, such as a single strand from a wire brush. You can use carburetor cleaner to loosen it up a bit, but the important part is to clean that hole out. You also need to make sure that the float moves freely up and down while you're in there. If it sticks in the up position, it will starve fuel as well. Also look closely at the gas that came out when you did this. Was there any water in it? If so, let a bit drain out before putting it all back together.(unclamp the fuel line). Hope you have it back online soon.

Could you tell me how to drain the gas tank.

easy way is to take the nut off the bottom of the carburetor bowl. It'll drain the tank, carb and fuel line. If you're not comfortable with this, then you can pull the fuel line off the carb or tank and let them drain this way too.

I have a 2003 huskee rear tine 5.0 when i spray starting fluid in it's runs 4 a few seconds then dies. I have cleaned the carb and the gas tank and line, I still seems that it is not getting fuel

Did you clean out all of the tiny holes in the main jet of the carburetor? I assume you also put fresh fuel in it as well. One other thing, a compression leak (loose spark plug, bad head gasket) can make it act like it's starving for fuel. Good luck. I'd still place my bet on the carb having one or two holes plugged in the main jet.

Troy bilt hasn't been used in 2yrs.; has oil and gas in it but will not electric or pull cord start...

1st I would drain the gas and put new in. It loses octane over time. Then try new spark plug. Also you may need a new diaphram in the carburetor. They are cheap and sell them at most hardware stores.

Troy Bilt tiller dies when I engage the tines.

Bogging down may indicate debris or old gas in the carb. Try doing a carb cleaning, and add a small amount of Seafoam gas additive to your gas.
