I have the same model Prima TV. It was manufactured in Oct. 05. We had it running this AM and it just stopped. We did not see it fail, but there was a definite odor of something frying. Lost the power lite and that is that. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Hello frexx,
First we need to determine which section has the problem. Can you post a picture of the circuit board? Make the pictures as clear as possible. Also it sounds like something is shorted (a coil or a capacitor) and is causing the draw of excessive current.
Please post a picture it will help in the diagnosis.
Thank you,
Shuttle83

It sounds like it could be your power supply board. You can get one from tristatemodule or shopjimmy. I personally use tristate its always cheaper and Ive had good luck with them but shopjimmy is pretty good too.

Can't turn on/off using either switch on front or remote. was plugged into outlet on cable set-top box. perhaps something was fried by sudden power outage.

In that case if ther is no power you better check first the power in the outlet they have. Then check the continuity of AC cord of the TV.If they are good, check the fuse, located inside at the power supply section near the AC supply voltage input.Replace same value of fuse if busted. Then try to turn on again..Try this procedure, hope will it help you..Thanks..

My laptop cord fried wen i plugged it into my laptop, i can't see any damage too the cord itself but the laptop won't turn on. I removed the battery and tried powering on the laptop that way, but...

It could very easily be either a fried motherboard, a broken connection on the DC jack within the laptop, or a fried DC Jack. It is typically at least a $200 fix if you go through GeekSquad or the manufacturer - maybe more if the motherboard is fried. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution to this one.

TV was on, heard sizzling sound from back of set, smoke came out and quickly dissipated, turned off . . . afraid to turn back on. is it fried? how can i check?

More likely to have burnt out power supply module, leave it unplug!. You need to look inside at the power supply module (the part where the power cord is attached to).

When I try to turn the laptop on, it comes on for approx 1 second and turns off. The indicator lights flash and you hear a noise from the cdrom. No display on the screen, no beeps. It does this when...

It looks like it's one of the following: a) fan not running and CPU overheating; b) video card fried; c) CPU fried
Possible solutions:
a) Check to see if you can hear the fan running when you turn it on. It should run all the time, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but ALWAYS on. Check if the laptop has too much dust inside it and clean it up (remove the bottom cover and blow air using a compressed air can). If the fan runs ok and is always running, then go to the next point
b) if the video card is fried, there is nothing you can do. Video cards in laptops are usually part of the motherboard and is not something that can be replaced or repaired. You'll need a new montherboard... and it is more convenient to replace the whole laptop. Sell your old one for parts.
c) Same as above. If the CPU is fried, it can't be replaced or repaired. Get a new laptop.

Plug in my desktop one night and it started smoking, i opened it up and the power supply had a burn on it. i bought a new one and still will not turn on. it did try to power up a few times but no...

It sounds like your motherboard has also fried. Whatever caused your power supply to burn up caused excessive voltage to go to your motherboard, and it will need to be replaced. There is a possibility that other things connected to your motherboard also fried such as the memory or cpu but you won't be able to determine that unless you replace the motherboard. In my professional opinion, it would be more cost effective to get a new computer at this point. Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution as fixya, since it answered your question; even if the news isn't very good. Thanks!
