Vidio tape keeps ejecting from machine when inserted

    Hi there,
I have a Philips Hyperband CATV Tuner VR 488 (Plug & Play ) Vidio Recorder. This information is
on the outside of the flap where you insert the vidio cassette.
At the back of the machine is the following . TYPE: VR488/55.
The problem I have is that when I insert a vidio cassette, it goes fully into the machine , and then
    ejects the cassette immediately.
I took the cover off of the machine to see what happens.
I noticed that the tape did not wind itself on to the head of the machine, before ejecting.
There are 2 rubber bands on this machine. One drives the head, and the other drives the insert/eject
cassette gear. Could these rubber bands be too streached or is there a switch that is faulty which
    causes the cassette to eject
I know this machine is very old, but something small that can be rectified will keep it going.
I am from South Africa and everyone tells me to throw
the machine away as DVD machines have taken the place of vidio recorders
I look forward to your reply as best you can.

    Kind regards

    Alf Konik.

    Hi there again,
    Thanks for the recomendations.
Will try looking in the areas you mentioned.
If I fail to repair, I will buy a DVD player/recorder and make
    everyone happy here at home.
Once again, thanks for trying to resolve the problem.
    Regards to all.

hi,thank you for the reply there is a problem on the mechanical loading of your cassette player.the primary cause of this is the mechanical timing of gears and also a worn out rubber belts .To resolve this problem you need to re allign all the loading gears and check for any broken teeth of hears replace if you found any.be very carefull in dismantling the gears and to tell you honestly this is not an easy task and the parts may be not available at the market good luck!

Please be more specific. When you insert tape, the tape housing extract to its body, or it just stays still and eject your tape.

Many different things could sause a problem, belts, mode switch, capacitors in capstan or head motor drive circuit. Hard to say what exactly is wrong with the machine without looking at it.

VCR continually tries to eject the tape after it is inserted

If you have cleaned the head with a good head cleaner and you are still having a problem...the belt is probably worn. A good head clean should fix the problem.

Panasonic 7350 VCR Keep ejecting tapes just seconds after loading

This happens when he strings are worn out or broken. It will not hurt to replace the strings of the VCR after some while.

Tape stuck in VCR, won't eject.

you posted 2 different problems here...
to answer this one ". The tape is stuck, won't eject and I'd like to get it out without damaging the VCR unit."...open unit, find motor that moves tape ejector and spin that motor by hand (power off)

the other problem, "the VCR will not insert a tape. It keeps rejecting it."...open unit and fully turn ejection motor until home position is reached...this is a home sensor switch not being activated.

Tape keeps ejecting - panasonic nvfj620

Is it only the Head cleaning cassette which keeps getting ejected, or is it happening with every tape you insert? Was the Head Cleaning Tape a little tight in the Cassette compartment? Did you have to put some pressure to push it in or did it come out with difficulty? From your symptoms, it looks like there is a gear timing problem with the cassette loading compartment gears. It could also be due to some obstruction inside. try shaking the VCR, and if you are hearing some noise, Open cover and check for foreign objects.
