Question about LaSpaziale S1 Vivaldi Espresso Machine

1 Answer

I have a Spazio EK. When I open the valve to allow water into the machine, the pressure relief valve at the top of the boiler starts spraying out water. I've tested by shutting down the machine, cooling for several hours, and starting cold. Again, as soon as water enters the Spazio, the valve sprays. I disassembled and reassembled the valve and spring. Same result. It's hard to imagine that the valve suddenly malfunctions, so I'd be delighted to hear from others. Comments?

How do I determine if the level probe isn't working? And do you know the part number so I can see it in the schematic? Thanks a million.

  • dthievin Apr 17, 2011

I've checked the probe, and it measured nothing when unplugged. But here's something I found interesting:

For testing, I replaced the spring in the pressure relief valve with a much stronger one. When installed, the boiler element would not power up. When I went back to the original spring, power was restored to the boiler element.

For me that's very strange since I don't understand the relationship between the heat sensor -- the probe -- and the pressure relief valve itself. There's no apparent electrical signal attached to the pressure relief valve, so how does it work aside from the normal spring compression when the boiler pressure gets too high? And why wouldn't the system power up when I put in the heavy spring? (I did it twice to be sure.)

Have you checked the level probe it could not be telling the machine that it is full and so the inlet valve keeps filling.

The level probe is usually a stainless steel thin pin that stick out the top of the boiler with an electrical connection going to it. Remove the electrical connection, and since we know that the boiler is full, we will use an ohms meter on the top of the probe and the top of the boiler or any other metal part to see if there is resistance, if there is then the probe works and the problem is somewhere else(CPU board). If there is no resistance then remove probe and clean then check for resistance from one end of probe to the other.

Is it possible to post a pic of the top of the boiler, it would really help in troubleshooting. And is the machine still overfilling. As far as I know there is no relationship between the overfill valve and the heating elements, because I have removed it several times on different machine models to check the boiler and kept it off when I turned the machine on. The main thing I would check on is the probe and how many of them are there on your machine(some machines has 2 one for bottom level and one for fill level), also check your ground on the plug and the machine, you might have a loose connection.

Alpha cd28c boiler loosing water and pressure through pr valve when heating is on,and when then switched off needs repressuring to use heating obvious pr valve been fitted.pressure

I assume losing pressure through the PR means Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) or temperature pressure (TPR). Open in TPR may mean boiler is overheating/overpressurized. Open in PRV means the Pressure Reducer/Fill Valve in the fill line of the boiler is broken.
House Water Pressure in a home is 30/40 PSI min to 60-80+PSI max.
Boiler PRV/TPR are set at 30 PSI open (SYSTEM PRESSURE) so too high a house water pressure will open the PRV/TPR. Replace the reduction regulator on/in the fill valve assembly

Pump won't come on, it has power to it, also the

The water from the relief valve means the boiler is very full, lets work on the water problem first then we will go to the pump.
IF the machine is not turned on does water flow out of the relief valve? ...if yes then check the manual fill to make sure it is in the off position. If no then we will need to check the level probe and or the inlet solenoid, because something is telling the machine it needs water.
For the pump is there any sound from it when you press the brew button? ....If yes then it might be blocked and you will have to remove the ring collar from the brass head, to remove pump from motor then check to see if pump head rotates, note direction on front of pump head. If no then you might have lost a fuse or there is a loose connection at the main box.

My pressure relief valve on my boiler is allowing water to pass through do i adjust it to stop the water flow? only have about 15 pounds of pressure in system

Even a small amount of crud on the rubber washer/sealer can cause the valve to seep. Some valves can be taken apart and cleaned but it will be better to replace the valve. They can be found on line for around $12 or more. You will have to shut off the water in take valve and drain most of the system unless you have a main line shut off valve so the system wont drain back into the boiler. These valves are usually set at 30PSI.

Loss of pressure in boiler, no obvious leaks, water pressure switch changed plus pressure release valve

Check that your make up water is on.

Make sure your fill valve is working but it sounds like it is not. Your min pressure should be 15 psig. on the boiler. Fill valve will maintain a15 psig on the boiler. Water and pressure does get out of the boiler when radiators are bleed. When fill valve is not working people will keep bleeding the radiators trying to get heat but only lowering the boiler pressure with no water make up.

Make sure your boiler is getting water and has pressure when running.

If it isn't...SHUT DOWN and have a professional look at it.

Pressure relief valve is factory set ta 30 psig and opens when pressure is above 30 psig. This is a safety valve.

My relief valve slowly drips when my boiler runs, fills up a 5 gallon bucket in a day, when it runs alot. this is new ,

Is the pressure in the boiler higher than the set pressure of the relief valve? If it is, there is a problem that the relief valve is trying to correct.
If not, did you try making the valve open?
Be careful, but step back, lift the lever and briefly let the relief valve discharge into a bucket of some sort, maybe you could put some old rags in it to keep from spraying out at you. If there is sediment in the valve this may flush it out.

Turned machine on - it went up to temperature - then it sort of "exploded" spraying water and from all sides of the machine - tripped the outlet fuse - I turn the steam knob and let all the pressure out. ...

That is the pressure relief valve blowing, and it can be scary. the problem is the pressurestat is sticking. You just need to replace the pressurestat. that controls the pressure in the boiler. You can adjust the to any pressure but the correct pressure is the light should go out at 1.1 on the gauge but the pressure will continue to about 1.2 on the gauge. If it hits 1.4 the pressure relief will blow. This is really a safety precaution to prevent the boiler from exploding, so don't try adjusting the relief valve.

Pressure relief valve - replace
The internal seal gets bunged up with dirt & scale and then leaks water [pressure] to that outside pipe
To avoid draining the whole system, turn off the two central heating taps on the 3/4 pipes and then operate the valve manually and / or disconnect - only a small amount of water will escape / drip to below the boiler
Replace valve and fill as before.
If you think your system needs flushing out - now is a good time
Turn off mains electricity to boiler before starting work

I have a Glowworm 30 cxi and the light is flashing, the pressure is 0.4.... i have no water or please

Under the boiler a little right of center there is a blue/other colour knob. Turn this anticlockwise [as you look up] [twist from right to left] This is the mains inlet tap to let water into the boiler and create the pressure shown on the guage 0.5 bar is the absolute nin.
allow the water to flow in until the guage reads about 1 bar then turn off the knob -not too tight as these are plastic
If you allow too much pressure- do not worry, there is an automatic relief valve.
If the boiler persists in loosing pressure, look for a leak in all pipes to & from radiators. If no leak then check the pressure relief valve outlet pipe, it usually goes through the wall to the outside. Look at the end for water drips & if there are drips replace valve

I have a ideal mini c24 cobi boiler and it isnt holding pressure the are no leaks inside the house it just seems to be releasing the water for the central heating from the blow off pipe outside so i keep...

So the boiler relief valve is leaking? What is the boiler pressure when the relief valve leaks? The relief valve will have a pressure rating on it. If the relief valve leaks when the pressure in the boiler is lower than the relief valve setting then its just a bad relief valve. If the relief valve is leaking when the boiler pressure gets above the relief valve pressure setting then the relief valve is doing its job and there is another problem. Several things can cause the boilers pressure to go higher than the relief valves setting. It could be a bad expansion tank or one that needs to be drained and re-charged. It could be a bad cold water fill valve that isn't shutting off and is over filling the system, rasing the pressure above the relief valve setting. If this boiler also does your domestic hot water, I have seen where the domestic hot waters heat exchanger has a hole in it and the domestic hot water is mixing with the boilers water and over pressuring the boiler.

Gravity feed boiler/ american standard model#g27dpgc

your make up water pressure is greater than the safety relief pressure. The safety should be 30psi lift. the makup usually goes through a regulator called an automatic makeup valve. these valves operate infrequently on a closed system and get rusty. They stick. If yours is stuck open, then your makeup water pressure which is probably greater than 30psi is overpressuring your boiler.
