Question about Sanyo HT30744 TV

1 Answer

Got it new at Walmart in 2006? Never had any problems with it, and always had a surge protector. I know the kids have abused it though. Anyway, yesterday they had a pink, washed screen, turned it off/on and it was fine all day. Today it is pink washed again, adjusting the picture controls like contrast, sharpness, color, brightness, have no effect whatsoever. I turned it off and waited 5 minutes, turned it on, and it acted like something wasn't powering on, the picture was distorted and flashed off, then I smell a something burnt and unplugged it. I am a fairly good electrical and mechanical troubleshooter. But have never messed around with a t.v. I wouldn't think a pink screen would be the result of low power issue? Would a picture tube have a burnt smell to it when it fails. Thanks, for the help.

Loud pop from surge protector that results in intermittent sound on Samsung 46" tv

I hope the surge protector is separate from your TV. It has Varistors in it that are supposed to pass overvoltage surges (it can happen without the power going out) then recover to normal. But sometimes they overheat, then they can become a fire hazard. Or the contacts in the sockets can get charred and flakey. Anyway sounds like it is fried, the only easy solution is replace it. A careful tinkerer with a good scrounge box could fix it, if you know anybody like that.

Model # P18004W01B wont turn on after power failure even though it was plugged into a surge protector power strip.

Power surge protectors don't always work 100%.
Hopefully the TV has internal Diode protection and it can be fixed cheap

PS3 Power Surge.

Get a surge protector for your most loved systems, that way the worst case scenario is you will need a cord replacement. Unplugging it when it's not in use may also cool it down.

My Gateway Essential 450 won't turn back on from the front power switch. Where can I buy a new switch or is the problem something else?

This is where you can buy a new ATX power on switch,

The Power On switch is located inside the plastic Power On button assembly.

Age plus the heat developed inside the computer, have made the plastic of the Power On button assembly, brittle.

I suggest removing the Power On button assembly from the Front Panel.

(And disconnect the Power On switch cable from the motherboard.
BEFORE you do I suggest you make a drawing, and possibly some notes, as to where that cable's wires plug into the motherboard)

Computer unplugged from power, follow Anti-Static Precautions.

I would suggest using a hairdryer set to low heat, and moving the nozzle slowly back, and forth at the plastic until it slightly softens.
(Or you can use a bowl of VERY warm water. The switch is no good now anyway)

Is the problem something else?
It's either a bad Power On switch, or a bad Power Supply.

(Provided you are sure the surge protector is getting power, AND you have ensured that THE receptacle in the surge protector that the computer is plugged into, has power.

I have had a few surge protectors where just THAT receptacle was bad. Surge protector power LED light was on. Monitor, printer, and router had power. Just ONE receptacle was bad)

There is a simple test to perform to see which component is bad Power On switch, or Power Supply.
IF you do not know how, and wish to, please state in a Comment.

I bought the heater around 2 months ago. It was working fine earlier but now it wont turn on. I have unplugged it and let it sit and am still unable to get it turn on. I checked the outlet and that is...

hello, Most all new heaters of this class have integrated controls that are part of the unit itself that are highly sensitive to power surge's and shorts. If the outlet it is plugged into is live and working the most likely a bad control board. These units almost always come with a minimum 2 year warranty most of the time more and seeing as you bought it recently i can help you find the proper information for retrieving the warranty if i know what retailer it came from IE: walmart,,, eBay, ETC.
I have a cabin in a area that has many power outages and surges due to old utilities and i use either a GFIC outlet or a single outlet surge protector (after a few problems of the similar type.
if you need anymore information or have any questions please let me know.

My power supply is fine but i can't get my computer to turn on

I've experienced this problem in the past and it's a dreadful feeling. There are a few things you can try before resorting to replacing the motherboard.
Based on your question, I'm guessing that you are fairly computer savvy and have already begun troubleshooting. Even so, the simple things can trip up even the pros sometimes if they overlook the basics.
Start at square 1 and ensure that everything is as it should be:
- Make sure that all cables are snuggly plugged in (power to CPU, surge protector, wall outlet, etc.) Kids and pets can knock them loose when you're not looking.
- Make sure that all switches are turned on (back of CPU, surge protector, etc)
-If power supply has been replaced/tested and proves to be okay then consider the power button itself. It's rare but it may not be working.
-If computer turns on then back off, you may need to replace your fan.
If you experienced the computer turning on, running for a while then turning off and continued to use it anyway- then you probably had a fan that wasn't working and eventually fried your motherboard.
Let me know how it goes. I may be able to provide more assistance after receiving more information about what steps you've already taken (i.e., how do you know the power supply is okay?... what trouble shooting steps have you already taken?) The information above assumes that you are hearing no noise from the cpu, fan, etc.

Does my samsung tv keeping turning itself off because of not having plugged it into a surge protector or is it more a fault with my tv

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps, ben

Make sure you have enough power (wall outlet, Surge Protector (MUST HAVE A GOOD ONE)
And Double Check that the Power Cable is 3-pronged, NOT one that someone pulled the ground pin off of!!! THATS BAD!!!

Or you just got a bad Power Cable,

Also Make sure you have a BIG power supply (I recommend at least 450 watt PS!

Check this all as if it was a far I believe your motherboard is just fine......the problem is somewhere between your Outlet, Power Cable, and Surge Protector (I really hope you are running it on one.....Never run any computer or Valuable components without one!)

I only mention that because some people don't realize the importance of surge protectors)

Surge Protector

Surge Protectors are devices that usually you plug your equipment to.. and it protects it from Voltage Spikes that would otherwise destroy the device without it.. saddly not all Surge Protectors are the sam.. some are completely useless..

If you are really serious about protecting your PC not just the hardware but also the data and your work.. might as well invest on a UPS(Uninterrupted Power Supply) unit.. it has everything a surge protector can offer and more..
