Check on Microsoft.com on the forums to see about the Ubuntu Linux issue.  I need more info about the broadband issue.  Is this a modem, a router, or something else?

How to install server ubuntu 10.04 with no flash drive just hard drive??

If you are connected to a network or internet you can do a net install

he network installer lets you install Ubuntu over the network. This is useful, for example, if you have an old machine with a non-bootable CD-ROM or a computer that can't run the graphical interface-based installer, either because they don't meet the minimum requirements for the live CD/DVD or because they require extra configuration before the graphical desktop can be used, or if you want to install Ubuntu on a large number of computers at once.

The setup file is an .exe file which doesnot run in ubuntu 10.04 lts edition. So would u help me to install the modem in ubuntu.

Assuming the modem is connected, click on System - Administration - Additional Drivers
Wait while ubuntu searches, then click on and activate any drivers listed.

If that doesn't resolve, try connecting to a router/modem - Enable networking (top left hand corner of screen) then click on System - Admin - Update manager. See if an update can resolve the issue.

You should have a driver's disk that came with your computer which have the network driver on it. If not, no fear you can download it from the link below.

How can i install Linux OS on my laptop? please help

do you want to have Linux while you are also having Windows? Then is will be a dual boot. To do this, have another partition of your hard disk empty. Like C (windows) and Drive E(free partition).
Download the latest version of ubuntu linux and use the bootable cd to install ubuntu on the other partition

Networking with windows

Hello there.

Nice to see more people using Linux and Ubuntu. For information on how to share your Ubuntu folder to linux, over file sharing click here

You basically only need to right click the folder you want to share, in Ubuntu, then enable sharing and when prompted to install services, tick the box called 'Install Windows network support'

Hope this helps.

ps: if you haven't seen the Ubuntu community documentation, click here
