Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

The fridge light bulbs are staying on and the heat has melted the surrounding parts and pieces (I am surprised a fire didn't start...). I am curious to what parts I need to fix the problem. Model #795.77319600

I'm not where these are located on your unit, but you need to replace the door switch. 6615JB2005C or
6600JB3007E. The problem with Kenmore is the only place to look up their parts is sears site. Or
G and E, but you need an account to do that. I looked up your model and really couldn't make heads or tails
of which part you need. Those two part numbers are door switches I just can't tell which one you need.
The diagram leaves a lot to be desired...Hope this helps in anyway.

unplug the fridge so there is no danger of electric shock, and remove the piece of socket left in there from the old bulb with a insulated pliers.. the remaining wire pieces can short out and blow the breaker in the house .i would not leave the broken bulb in there .

Turn the unit off so the bulb can cool and just take it out. Sounds like there is a problem with the switch, as to the melted surround if it is part of the liner there aint nothing you can do, save patch it with fiberglass and resin.

Fridge light bulb blown the housing is melted is this normal fridge freezer 2 months old

this is definitely not normal. It had to be caused by either a bulb of higher than 40 watts, or a situation where lots of items in the fridge were closely surrounding the bulb causing it to overheat.

LG Refrigerator--Melted Light Fixture

I just had the same thing happen yesterday. The Sears repairman has been and gone, and he has advised me that LG has issued a Service Alert for the problem. They have created a new panel for the fridges with a thermostat that measures the temperature of the lights and shuts them off if they get too hot. In addition, he is going to replace the motherboard of the computer in the fridge. I feel that LG should send notifications to retailers that sell this product and that every purchaser of these fridges made in 2006 should be alerted to this potential problem.

LG Design defect - Light stayed on and melted the fridge.

yes, contact LG for this known problem. it's a circuit board defect. the tech should replace both bulbs w/lower wattage, plastic bulb lens, lens surround and bulb sockets themselves. be sure to have your fridge model # and serial # handy.
