Question about Gigabyte 870A-UD3 Motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core CPU and ATI Darksider... (GA870AUD3BUNDLE)

1 Answer

I installed the Gigabyte 870A-UD3 Motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core CPU in a computer for my Grandson. It seems to be working with one exception. The processor is idling at 800 mhz rather than 3400 . I had a similar problem before with the x6 that turned out to be a driver problem. I am using "Driver Whiz" to check and upgrade drivers and according to it the drivers are right.. Any help would be appreciated.. Bill

Personally I don't like sites that try to install drivers for you. sometimes they do all right but , sometimes they may install generic updates that don't work or make matters worse. A prime example, is if you try to update a driver for a graphics card. Your best bet for driver updates is to get them from the manufacturer of the software.

This is Gigabytes link for downloads. There are a couple of different options depending on your revision.
You also have AMD chipsets and, I'm guessing, an ATI/AMD graphics card. I'm not familiar with "darksider so if you can give me the model number of your card I can help you further or, if you know how to enter info definately get your card updtaes through here:

I suspect you mean the Motherboard that has the AMD Phenom II x3 710.

If so then find specifications on that motherboard to see what better, faster? CPU is compatible with it.

4th Core is Disabled by AMD and you need to know how to enable it?
Maybe this can help.

What is the best quad core for ax3400g-u4802

The best quad core for that computer would be the AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition. It will fit in your computer's AM3 socket, and is outrageously fast. It will cost a pretty penny though, almost $200.

if you did not used heat sink paste between the heat sink and the cpu unit, that, will be you problem initially
the paste is used to exclude any air and gaps between the cpu back and the heat sink and makes a perfect heat transfer medium
cpu units will hit critical temps within seconds if the heat is not being transfered correctly

Hi,

Sounds like a procie problem.

Check your processor's heatsink, if it really sits flat on your processsor.

Try to replace with another processor, take note of your socket if that is for the board's requirement.
Put a new heatpste too.

Then tell us the effect.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Hello again, Upgrading CPU's

Your board supports socket AM2 CPUs the fastest of which is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ dual-core processor at 3.1 GHz.

Your motherboard does not accept socket AM3 CPUs.
