Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

Ok this is going to sound weird. I have asked every maintance/ heating person I know and got nothing. I clean a house for this single women. she has baseboard heating. I've been cleaning there about a year now. Back in December she asked me to wipe down a wall above this baseboard. first her walls are painted with flat paint which didn't help but anyways..it was like wiping up sut. There is no forced air anywhere in this house, she does smoke but that would be yellow. she has only lived in this house about two years and she had i freashly painted before moving in. house is about 15 yrs old. no propain, no karosine, nothing like that, it is worse directly above baseboards but its every where. there is a film on her furniture, floor, and i even found it on the toilet on the side closest to the baseboard. Any idea at all what this could be?? it is wrecking her funiture and drapes and i'm concerned about her breating this in. i sprayed it with striaght bleach thinking maybe black mold and it stayed black and when you and anything but water to it it smears like smoke sut. she does burn candles

Hi,
Both smoking and cvandle does produce a bit or soot... after many days and weeks it doe accumulate....where??? on the walls and on the top of smooth surfaces...
The walls will get more over the baseboard radiation as a result of the extra air flow through the radiators...they work by convection and heat the air as it moves through.. in the bottom and out the top...then the **** in the air sticks to the walls...
Also many times candles will burn very dirty and make tons of soot, but we all know what smoking does and the fact that the second hand smoke can be worse then the actual smoking...

My opinion would be that the soot is a result of the two together...
But it is not likely that you will get her to give up either the smoking or the candles....:-)

It maybe grease, i would suggest using kilz on all the walls and repaint with a semi gloss.

Got a weird starting problem with my Citroen berlingo van

Sound like it's starter motor at fault. With you saying it's after a long run there will be a lot of heat in the engine/gearbox this could be causing the starter to stick, like you say after half hour or more it's OK and short journeys you have no problem.

Do i need to vent my 3510 dryer

Maybe not. What did the manufacturer say about venting? Are you prepared for a house full of dust? What about all the extra moisture you will trap inside?

In the past, in the winter time, to conserve heat, I have vented my dryer to the inside through tripple thick nylon womens hose. I didn't save enough $ to offset the dust I got in my basement.

Another consideration: What does your local housing authority (building inspecctor) say?

If you ask me, I'd say vent.

Let me know what happens - Thanks

HI, no need to replace the unit at this time. this is a Open or shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD).
