Speaker wire size wont effect output. I will in extreme cases, but you will always have sound.
Be sure the RCA cables are in. And that they are coming out of the "OUTPUT" of the deck and the "INPUT" of the amp. Check your fuses. Could have one blown.

Do I need to get a new head unit to put an amp and subwoofer in my mitsubishi verada?

Amps have a high and low input. You can run some speaker wire from your rear speakers to the high input on your amp. It comes with a small white plug with four wires. Use the green for one side, and the grey for the other! So no, you do not!

One thing to remember about most radios, the RCA pre amp circuit will still work even if the mosfet power amp inside the radio does not. The best way to know if the amp inside the radio works is to use one matching color pair coming off the radio to wire up a random speaker right to the radio. You can use just about any old random 4 ohm speaker that is laying around to check it. The best solution if the amp inside the radio is blown is to replace the radio or amp the pre amp outputs with a small 4 channel amp. Oh, by the way. What vehicle are you connecting this into? And does the vehicle say Bose, Infinity, or ect sound or Premium sound? These usually denote a factory amplifyer already onboard and requires special connections to get the signal to these amps to then be delivered to the speakers.

What size amplifier to I need to operate a Pyle Driver Pro 15 inch subwoofer? It is hooked to a 200 Watt amp and there is no sound coming from the speaker?

You may want to check ALL the connections and make sure you are connected properly. You SHOULD surely hear a lot of sound even with such a small wattage amp. Blown speaker? Blown amp? Have them tested. Also the REM or remote line on the amp is a overlooked wire.

New (old) house with stuff installed when we got it

IF YOU HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF CABLES AS SPEAKERS HOOK THESE UP TO YOUR AMP THEN SUB TO SUB OUT PUT ON YOUR AMP WITH A SUB CABLE OR PHONO THAT REACHES FROM AMP TO SUB.SET AMP TO ALL CHANNEL STEREO OR MODE THAT SENDS STEREO TO ALL SPEAKERS,ALSO SET SPEAKER SIZE IN SETUP OF AMP TO SMALL AND SUB OUT PUT TO SUB ONLY.YOU SHOULD GET MUSIC AROUND THE HOUSE.IF SOUND IN SAY BEDROOM IS NOT AS LOUD AS BATHROOM USE THE TEST TONE TO LEVEL OUT EACH SPEAKER.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

Sound quality change

Let me see if I am understanding this.Somehow one chanel of your HK amp was shorted ,But only for an instant. When the wires touched we are hoping that the protection circuitry shut down the HK amplifier . Here are some things you can check:
  1. First and most likely thing: is there any chance that you reversed the speaker leads and now the speaker is playing out of phase from the rest of the system.
  2. You can check and see if it is the speaker or the amp by putting one of the other speakers in the system in that same spot, but make sure that speaker is in phase as well.
  3. Run the channel you think you may have damaged through one of the good speakers that you know is not damaged.
----Phase----
If you set two speakers together, while they are playing they should be beating in and out at the same time. If a speaker is out of phase while one goes in the one that is out of phase will go out and vice versa.

If you still have not narrowed down the problem, there might be a problem with the amplifier itself. For future reference, if I have an amp and speakers that I like, I will put a small fuse right at the point where the wire comes out of the amp: put it on the +(hot) wire. If you have any more questions feel free to ask fixya.com or myself.

If this helps you with your problem, please let us know.

it sounds like you pop the power Reg. transistor or one of the Amp. chips instide. Some Amps has a pic fuse inside on the main board its green very small shape like a tear drop with a wire comeing out both ends it would in a socket some times white or black.
